Two gunmen shot at a crowd of beachgoers in Sydney, Australia, killing at least 16 people and wounding at least 40 during a
Jewish holiday event at Bondi Beach on Sunday, in what Australian authorities are calling a terrorist attack.
The attack, which targeted an event marking the first day of Hanukkah at the popular tourist destination, is the latest and most deadly in a string of antisemitic incidents that have blighted Australia since the onset of the war in Gaza in October 2023.
The subsequent sixteen months were sullied by firebombing, arson, graffiti, and hate speech incidents that prompted Mike Burgess, the Director-General of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), to proclaim that his top priority in terms of threat to life is antisemitism.

Australia, a country of 28 million people, is home to about 117,000 Jews. Figures from the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) show that antisemitic incidents in Australia have reached historically high levels, at “almost five times the average annual number before October 7, 2023.” The group documented 1,654 anti‑Jewish incidents across Australia between Oct. 1, 2024, and Sept. 30, 2025, in addition to 2,062 incidents nationwide the year before.
The Rise of Antisemitism around the World is not unexpected as it is complete alignment of Bible Prophecy as the scattered People of Israel decendant are have been “fished” from around the land to return to their land and now we are seeing them being “hunted” in fulfilment of Bible Prophecy.
The Prophet Jeremiah lists two phases to the return of the Jews to the land: the phase of fishers (the age of persuasion), and
the phase of hunters, where they will be pushed by persecution. In this week’s Bible in the News, we see that the hunter phase is now becoming the reality that Jews of the diaspora are facing in everyday life. Here is the full passage from Jeremiah 16:
“14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; 15 But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers. 16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish (persuade) them; and after will I send for many hunters (Anitsemitism striking terror into them), and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. 17 For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes. 18 And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things. 19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. 20 Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods? 21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.”
The God of Israel wants all his special chosen people to return to the land nad many will prior to the return of Christ but the rest will only return once Christ has returned through the work of Elijah the property.
