True Bible Teaching - About You and God and Your Hope of Salvation

The Riches of this World compared to the PROMISES of God

To some this might seem to have an obvious answer ie. The riches of this world are not ETERNALwealthvsgod1 whereas the PROMISES of God ARE ETERNAL!

That in itself is a very compelling argument and certainly works by itself for some people to decide that they don’t want to just perish away into nothing at the end of this very short life but choose rather to seek something that is ETERNAL out of this life.

However for numerous others who still choose the riches of this world over the Kingdom of God it is clearly not enough, so what is missing?

Well for some it is probably the whole issue of whether God even exists let alone whether or not there is an ETERNAL kingdom coming.

We have numerous articles that already deal with this and all the evidence that clearly supports the existence of God both from the Bible and from Science so we don’t need to deal with this here, but for those who would like to, here are a couple of links:

See OVERWHELMING Evidence that the Bible is TRUE

But what about those who do believe that there is a God and yet never get around to learning about Him and His Purpose?

Well frankly some of us do just put things off until ‘tomorrow’, we might mean well by saying this to ourselves that one day yes we’ll look further into this.  Yet sadly for most of these people ‘tomorrow’ never comes and I have met a lot of older people who will tell you exactly this and they just don’t know where all the time has gone.

Sadly this is true for most because as we get older and life becomes more complicated with more responsibilities, careers and families etc then time becomes an even more precious commodity that only a determination of will and action will make that ‘tomorrow’ happen.

Yet the simple fact is that whatever you do or don’t do, God’s purpose is and will be worked out upon this earth whether you are ready for it or not.  For those who know about it the signs are all about us in the world today that God’s purpose is alive and well and is happening before our very eyes.

God’s purpose is waiting for no one!

See GOD'S Purpose with the EARTH

Day by day we see developments in this world that demonstrate that the things God has spoken of 2,000 and 3,000 years ago are happening right now and that all the nations are aligning to what God Prophesied would be the geo-political alignment of nations in the last days.

But how easy it is to be caught up in the riches and more so the pleasures of this life to the point you see this as the sole purpose of your life and the pursuit of the things this world has to offer for some it becomes an all consuming thing.  For them they live to work and reap the returns this world can offer.

Some people might even see wealth as giving them control over their life?  But is this true?

Well to some extent wealth can bring us more options as to what we can do, but we can still get sick diseased and die?  Ultimately you can’t control these things no more than you can prolong your life.  After all God has sealed our fate with death as the wages of sin which all men everywhere are guilty of and some wealthy people perhaps even more guilty of.  So can wealth give you control – not really and in the end most definitely NOT!

Whereas for others they work to live and are looking for the most out of this short life and most definitely for something more than the things that are transitory and fleeting and only conditional upon a certain supply and demand that has many times over around the world proven to be fragile at best.

Here alone is a striking contrast because we read in the Bible that “8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”  Hebrews 13:8.  And again in…

James 1:17

“17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

We can rest securely knowing that what God has Promised to do He will do.

So over and above what this world can offer us here is certainty and we can see the evidence of this in His unfolding purpose in the world today.

This brings about a very important point as some people say that a belief in God is blind faith because we cannot see Him?  But this is not correct and most certainly is not the basis of what the Bible itself describes as faith.

Hebrews 11:1-3

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

From this we learn that faith has “substance” and “evidence” and that the very things we see around us are proof of this.

Paul goes further and says that everyone is without excuse as to a belief in God as the evidence of God is all around us.

In Psalm 90:9-10 we read this…

“9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told. 10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”

While these words were spoken by Moses to Israel they still apply to us today.  For some,  life is even shorter than “threescore years and ten”?

But this is not the only point Moses is making here as he adds to this short life that irrespective of how long it is it is filled with“labour and sorrow” and then we“fly away” as if we had never been.

How true this is:

Ecclesiastes 5:14-16

“14 But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. 15 As he came forth of his mother’s womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. 16 And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind?”

These words were spoken by King Solomon one of the wealthiest men to have ever lived, where it says that his wealth was “beyond measure” and that he made

How rich was King Solomon?

While the Bible does not give us a value or weight of all the silver, bronze, precious gems, garments, spices, etc. that came to Solomon, it does give us a rough idea how much gold he brought in and how rich he was.

"14Every year King Solomon received over twenty-five tons (other translations say 'six hundred andwealthvsgod2 sixty-six talents') of gold, 15 in addition to the taxes paid by merchants . . ." (1Kings 10)

Used anciently, Talents were a measure of weight and money. A talent weighs roughly 75 U.S. pounds (34.3 kilograms), which is equal to 1,094 troy ounces. At $1,500 per troy ounce, a talent of gold in today's value is worth $1,641,000. At $1,600 per troy ounce, a talent is worth $1,750,400. Solomon received 666 talents of the metal EACH YEAR. This means the value of what he got each year was between $1,092,906,000 and $1,165,766,400 U.S. dollars!

Solomon became so immensely rich that ALL his cups were made of gold (not one was made of silver - 1Kings 10:21). His wealth was so immense that gold and silver were as common in Jerusalem as STONES (2Chronicles 1:15, see also 1Kings 10:27)!

So what might Solomon’s Net Worth have been?

What exactly was Solomon's net worth? Exactly how rich was he? There has never been a human in history who had SO MUCH gold and silver "at his fingertips" such that it was as common as pebbles! Since we know he ruled Israel for forty years, and that he brought in roughly 1.1 BILLION dollars of gold EACH YEAR, we can safely assume his assets were in the billions of dollars. However, there is more! He received wealth BEYOND the yearly amount of gold he brought in such as:

· His inheritance from his father King David

· Gold and silver received from the kings of Arabia, governors and merchants.

· The heavy taxes paid by the Israelites

· Tribute money from countries and kingdoms

· Gold, silver, ivory, apes, monkeys, Ethiopians, and peacocks received every three years due  from his business partnership with Hiram, King of Tyre.

· He received gifts of gold, spices, precious stones, garments, armor, horses, mules, and so on EACH YEAR.

It is safe to say Solomon was certainly RICH, and likely one of the wealthiest humans EVER given the amount and variety of goods that came to him on a regular basis!

Ecclesiastes 1:14

“14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.”

Ecclesiastes 12:8-13

“8 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity….13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”

And why is this so?

Ecclesiastes 5:14-16

“14 But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. 15 As he came forth of his mother’s womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. 16 And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind?”

At the end of our life what does wealth amount to?

We die and are buried like the poor man and there remain forever 6 feet under pushing up daises as they say!

So why would anyone spend their short life on being consumed alone with the things this world has to offer and not seek something much better and much more valuable.

Yes just think about this why would you do this?

We can enjoy the things this world has to offer but we need to do so in perspective of what the end of this life provides verses what the Promises of God can provide to those who come to know Him and Love Him.

Now there is something more serious that we need to consider because no matter what we do with our life, how we choose to live it and where we choose to spend how limited time there is a Day of Judgement coming for all mankind.

For many this has come with their death and for them there is no more reward.

For others this will come when Christ returns and whether we have great wealth of not in that day will not  help us one little bit.

In this day those with money will find it to be utterly worthless!

Isaiah 2::10-19

“10 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty. 11 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. 12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low…17 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. 18 And the idols (the things in which man trusts) he shall utterly abolish. 19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.  20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; 21 To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.”

So where will you stand in this day?

wealthvsgod3Will you stand with Christ and all true believers?

Or will you have trusted in your wealth and be one of those who find nothing to trust in and that all is lost in this day?

We hope this has given you something to think about and that ultimately it will assist you to spend your time wisely and seek after that which is ETERNAL and not passing away with this world.

Now check out the joyous and glorious KINGDOM OF GOD ON EARTH!
