True Bible Teaching

An independent study of the Bible will reveal that the following are key True Bible Teachings:

  1. The Bible is God's word and the only message from him. It is without error, except for copying and translation errors.
  2. There is only one God - the Father. The Holy Spirit is God's power.
  3. Jesus is the Son of God, and a human being, through his mother Mary.
  4. Man is mortal, having no existence when dead.
  5. By living a sinless life, ending with his sacrificial death by crucifixion, Jesus has opened the way of salvation from death.
  6. Belief and baptism are essential steps to salvation.
  7. God raised Jesus from death. Jesus is currently in Heaven, on God's right hand. He will one day return.
  8. When Jesus returns, he will raise his "sleeping" followers from death and grant immortality to the faithful who have tried to live by God's precepts.
  9. His followers will help him to rule, bringing justice, righteousness and peace to the whole world - the Kingdom of God.

WHY IS BIBLE TRUTH SO IMPORTANT?

Bible Truth

THE IMPORTANCE OF BIBLE TRUTH

Is Bible Truth important to your Faith and Salvation ie. will you be saved despite what you believe the bible teaches or does it matter what you believe?

Well the word “truth” appears 237 times in the bible, that alone says it must be important!

Therefore it must be important to understand what “truth” is.

A quick scan of the passages using this word “truth” leave us in no doubt that it is not only important, but vital to our salvation.

John 17:3

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 John 5:20

20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

1 Timothy 2:3-4

3For thisis good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Clearly then knowing what is Bible Truth is important and vital, in addition to this we are also warned that some would depart from the “truth”…

1 Timothy 4:1

1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1 John 4:6

6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

From these passages it is very clear that we need to know the “truth” about God and His Son as it is taught to us in the Bible.  This means we must learn what this is from the Bible itself.

Don't let your HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL rest with someone else eg. your pastor or minister, YOU owe it to yourself and your family to be fully convinced of what it is you believe to be sure it HOLDS something REAL for you.

We have all been warned by God that there would be many false teachers and Jesus himself has told us that "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."  See Matthew 7:14

Sadly when Christ returns to this earth, many will only then realise that they have believed in lies Jeremiah 16:19

"19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit."

Don't let this be you or your family!

The Bible is our only true source for the Truth!

If we claim to follow Christ we should trust in the Scriptures as confidently as Jesus and his Apostles did:

Jesus said that: The Scripture cannot be broken.  (John 10:35)

Paul said that: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16)

Peter said that: For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21)

The things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven (1 Peter 1:12)

True faith must be founded on a fully inspired Bible.

The OFFER of LIFE or DEATH

God's Offer of LIFE or DEATH

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.   See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him… This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life…"  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

From this passage we see how important it is to each one of us that we seek after God and His Word the Bible to us.

Without this we have no hope of LIFE, but only a future of DEATH.

This Word of God was originally given to the Nation of Israel and later it spread via the Apostles of Christ to the World, that even we today might have this same HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL.

It is UP to YOU then to seek out God’s Word, to KNOW what is the TRUTH of God’s Word so that you and your family might KNOW the way of LIFE ETERNAL and the great HOPE of living in God’s Kingdom on EARTH.

Do not let your HOPE rest upon others and most importantly on what others teach, search it out for yourself because we have been warned that the churches would be astray from God’s word in the last days.

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”   2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Godis a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

The Bible Is Our ONLY Guide

The Holy BibleThe Bible provides us with plain Scriptural Teaching for the True Followers of Christ

The statements on this guide represent what we believe is true Bible teaching. The statements are deliberately challenging, asking every reader to compare his own opinions with the plain teaching of Scripture, examining carefully the Bible passages offered as proof. If, as a result, a change of mind and heart is called for, there will be no doubt that the teaching of the Lord, and the book he trusted, must be followed and not what the churches teach.

All Scripture quotations are taken from the New King James (also known as the Revised Authorized) Version of the Bible.

THE SABBATHThe Jewish Sabbath Day

IS IT A SPECIAL DAY FOR CHRISTIANS TODAY?

1. WHICH DAY IS THE SABBATH?

The answer to this question may surprise you. The sabbath in the Bible began at sunset on Friday and ended at sunset on Saturday. That is how the Jews observed it. The ‘day’ began when darkness fell. The reason for this is found in Genesis 1:5: “So the evening and the morning were the first day.” The evening came first. The sabbath, and man’s duties on it, is first recorded 2,500 years later, in Exodus 20:9,10: “Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD  your God. In it you shall do no work … The LORD blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.” Today, orthodox Jews still keep that sabbath. It was a wonderful rest for those who worked six days a week, and especially for slaves. For everyone, it was a release from busy days focussed on making a living. They could, on the sabbath, give their full attention to worshipping God.

2. DID JESUS THINK THE SABBATH WAS A SPECIAL DAY?

There is a marked contrast between the ideas of the Jewish leaders about the sabbath day, and those of Jesus. The leaders were very strict. They were hard on people who were not equally strict. In fact, they were more severe than God had intended. Jesus took a very different view. He understood the real meaning of the sabbath.

The leaders were concerned about the “letter of the law”. Jesus cared about the spirit of the law. When Jesus healed men and women on the sabbath day, the leaders were against him. They even complained that a lame man who Jesus healed was “working” on the sabbath. All because he carried his mat after being healed! They also spoke against the disciples of Jesus for plucking ears of corn to eat, on the sabbath.

When Jesus healed on the sabbath, he saw it as a way in which God was glorified. Jesus must have been right, because he came to do his Father’s will, and he did it. God was pleased to call Jesus, “My beloved Son”. Jesus said: “The sabbath was made for man.” It was a day of rest and worship, and for honouring God by doing His will.

THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST

"I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."  Romans 1:16

THE POWER OF GOD

The gospel of Christ has been provided through the power of God, (His Holy Spirit) so that all men would have the opportunity to be saved. This wonderful hope that is available to us is evident in the words of the Apostle Paul to the Romans, as quoted above. (Romans 1:16)

UNTO SALVATION

Salvation is something that all men desire. Many however, do not always think about and strive for this hope. It may only be when the fact of our mortality becomes apparent that we are seriously concerned with a future life.

The death of a loved one, or our own impending fate is likely to stir our thoughts on the potential for being saved from dying. It is certain that if we do nothing to change our condition, we are all destined to return to the dust of the ground, forever.

THE GOSPEL

The Apostle taught us that the key to a change in our destiny is the "gospel of Christ." It is both the message of the gospel, and the name of Jesus Christ that are important.

The gospel is therefore described as "the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ." ( See Acts 8:12 )

CHRIST

THE NAME OF Jesus Christ is more than just a name. Jesus actually means saviour, and the word Christ is the English term for the Hebrew word Messiah, which means anointed.

Salvation therefore is only possible through an anointed saviour. We are told in Acts 4:12 just how significant the connection to the name of Christ is. " Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

BELIEVETH

It is important to recognize that there are other key elements in the process of being saved. The "power of God unto salvation" mentioned above, is "for everyone that believeth."

Without faith it is impossible to please God. ( see Hebrews 11:6) We must believe in God, and believe in the gospel of salvation that he has provided, and in the name of Jesus.

BAPTISM

In the verse mentioned earlier from Acts 8:12, there is another critical matter. Our belief in the gospel and the name must lead to action. Those who believed Philip's preaching of the gospel, were baptized.

Our baptism should begin a life of obedience so that through the grace of God, we may find His salvation.

"Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God."  Mark 1:14

The Gospel of ?

It the gospel is referred to in many ways. It is called the "gospel of Christ". It is also referred to as the "gospel of the Kingdom of God". (as shown in the verse above).

The word gospel means "good news." In the 101 times that the word occurs in the New Testament the definitions of the gospel include:

Gospel of God
Gospel of the blessed God
Gospel of the Kingdom
Gospel of Christ
Gospel of Jesus Christ
Gospel of the Son
Gospel of grace
Gospel of peace
Gospel of your salvation

There is only one gospel, and none of these qualifiers of the term change that fact. It is all of those things and more, and the words that are written to amplify it simply add understanding to its scope.

Gospel of the Kingdom

One of the definitions of the gospel is that it is the gospel of the kingdom of God. The gospel then, is the good news about the kingdom of God that is coming.

The Gospel Message

The Gospel is described in God's word as the "things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ" (Acts 8:12). The following articles are dedicated to the proclamation of this Gospel:

Introduction to the Gospel

"But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women" (Acts 8:12).

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek"(Romans 1:16).

The Gospel(or good news) is the message in the Bible of the coming Kingdom of God on this earth. This Gospel was preached to Abraham over 4000 years ago in very simple terms. He was told: "In thee shall all nations be blessed" (see Galatians 3:8).

"God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities"(Acts 3:26).

When the promised Kingdom comes, it will indeed be a time of blessing for all of the nations of the earth. There will be peace on this earth and good will among men, and all nations will call our Lord Jesus Christ blessed. He will be our King of righteousness and peace, and the whole earth will be filled with the glory of God.

The Parable of the Sower / Thy Kingdom Come

Luke 8:5-8,11(NIV)

  1. "A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up.
  2. Some fell on rock, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture.
  3. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants.
  4. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown." When he said this, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear"...
  5. "This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God".

Jesus often used parables to teach his followers about the Kingdom of God. He could have spoken to them more plainly, but he wanted to encourage those who were willing to seek for understanding.

Casual listeners were probably turned off by his approach. These appear in his parable as those who received the seed (his word) along the path. They had no real interest in his message of hope. It was "in one ear and out the other."

Others had hearts that were like the rocky ground. The word of the gospel did not survive because they did not seek for further moisture from the teachings of the Master.

Then there were those who received the word with joy, but they filled their lives with worldly things that choked out the gospel message. These material things were represented by the thorns.

Fortunately, there were some who proved to be good soil for God's word. They heard the word, and they allowed it to root in them. They watered and cultivated their interest in the good news of the Kingdom of God. Those who were good ground for the gospel prospered and brought forth fruit.

Today, it is our turn to be the good ground for the word.

BIBLE TRUTH ABOUT THE ANTI-CHRIST

Prophecy Is A Popular Topic Today

Bible prophecy is becoming an extremely popular subject for discussion in today's

Christian world. Ten or fifteen years ago it was difficult to find any books on prophecy in Bible book stores, but now entire shelves are stocked with them. Furthermore, we find in today's Christian television and radio programs that prophecy is becoming an increasingly popular subject, and as time goes on, it seems to be gaining a wider audience than ever before.

Many people have now realized that the return of the Jews to their land and the rebirth of the nation of Israel is an example of Bible prophecy being fulfilled in our day. They further have seen that prophecy indicates Jesus Christ will soon return and Russia will eventually attack and temporarily defeat Israel. However, when we examine in more detail the events which will occur at the time of the end, we find there are many interpretations as to when Jesus will return and how the end of this age will come about.

Our Interpretation Of Prophecy Does Matter

It may appear that it does not matter how we interpret prophecy, for how can prophetic events affect our way of life and our salvation? If we look carefully into the Bible, however, we find examples indicating that it does matter how we view Bible prophecy.

One clear example is found in Matthew 24 where Jesus warned the Jews about the

coming invasion of the Romans into Jerusalem. Jesus said:

"So when you see the desolating sacrilege spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; let him who is on the housetop not go down to take what is in his house; and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his mantle." (Matthew 24:15-18)

To the Jews that were living at that time, this was a very important prophecy because the Roman army later surrounded Jerusalem and the Jews who understood the words of Jesus fled from the city and were saved. Those who did not correctly understand this prophecy stayed in the city to be trapped by the Roman army and die in the siege that followed.

Another clear example is found in the Jews' rejection of Jesus. If the Jewish people had correctly understood the Old Testament prophecies which indicated that their Messiah would have to suffer and even die before he could reign as king, then they would not have rejected Jesus as the Messiah. Tragically, most of the Jews did not understand Bible prophecy correctly, since they expected the Messiah to overthrow the Romans in their day and then establish the kingdom in Israel. Their wrong understanding of prophecy caused them to reject Jesus Christ!

Certainly from these two examples we can see how necessary it is for us to have a correct understanding of Bible prophecies. We also live in an age when we are looking for the Messiah to come and establish his kingdom. No one desires to be in the position where he or she might reject Jesus when he comes because of an incorrect understanding of the prophetic events related to his second coming. Yet the framework has already been laid throughout Christianity for most Christians to do exactly that.

A sudden and rapid change has recently occurred within most Christian churches that has completely altered their prior understanding of the events at Jesus' second coming. Many of these churches and their leaders have abandoned the original teachings of their founders on this subject and have replaced them with the belief that a satanic man (the future Antichrist) will control the world for 7 years just prior to the return of Jesus. This false teaching is preparing millions of Christians throughout the earth to reject Jesus at his return because they will be convinced, by the things he will do, that he is "the Antichrist" and will oppose him.

Response to Mainstream Christianity:

The Nature of Man

This article is divided into four subsections:

  1. Precis of the mainstream Christian Position.
  2. Failings of these teachings.
  3. Precis of the True Bible Teaching Position.
  4. Link to Wrested Scriptures Page.

The Wrested Scriptures Page lists passages commonly used to defend the erroneous views, and outlines the correct understanding of these passages.

In referring to 'Mainstream Christianity', we speak of the principal Christian groups, such as Catholics, Baptists, Evangelicals, Pentecostals, etc.

Please excuse the directness of the sections below; due to the nature of the media, we felt it was best.

1.     Precis of the mainstream Christian Position.

Mainstream Christian Teaching

With regards to the nature of humankind, almost all of Christianity is united in affirming that within every person lies a portion that is inherently immortal. The most frequent take on this is that we have an immortal soul that upon death of the flesh does not die, but rather goes somewhere else. Variations abound.

2.     Failings of these teachings.

Inherent Flaws in Mainstream teaching

  1. The evidence of our eyes denies that upon death we go somewhere else. When we see someone die, no matter how nice it is to think that a part of them remains alive, the empirical evidence points to the fact that they are totally dead.
  2. To bear out the first point, God said to Adam in clear and concise terms that upon death he would return to the ground: "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; you are dust, and to dust you shall return". (Gn. 3:19) Humans are made out of two things: inert materials, and the spirit of God. The inert material (water, minerals, other elements and compounds) is not unique to us or in any way special, and the life giving spirit (or breath) of God simply returns to Him when we die (Eccl. 12:7).
  3. There is no Biblical evidence that the spirit of life possessed by humans is special in any way. Quite the contrary, we are living beings in the same way all breathing, oxidizing creatures are living beings. The vocabulary of Genesis and the entire Bible bears this out.
    • Ecclesiastes 3:19 - For the fate of the sons of men and fate of beast is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts...
    • Ecclesiastes 9:10 - Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no work or thought of knowledge or wisdom in Sheol [the grave], to which you are going.
    • Psalms 146: 3-4 - Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no help. When his breath departs he returns to his earth; on that very day his plans perish. Notice here that it doesn't say that the body returns to earth: 'he returns to his earth'. The person returns to the soil, not just a part, or exterior shell as is taught.
    • Gen. 2:7 - then the Lord God formed man of the dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became aliving being. Compare with 1:20, 21 and 24, where all the other 'living beings' are created. Note that the Hebrew in all these verses is 'nefesh', which in many cases is translated 'soul'. So animals have souls just like we do.
  4. In the Bible, the word 'soul' simply means 'being', and can refer to animals as much as humans. The phrase 'immortal soul' is entirely absent from scripture, and in fact, there are many passages that quite explicitly say that the soul [i.e. the being or person] dies.
    • Ezekiel 18:4, 20 - ...the soul that sins shall die. [In this passage, soul means simply 'person'.]
    • Psalms 33:18-19 - Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death, and keep them alive in famine. Note here that the death God saves the soul from is famine, not anything spiritual or otherworldly. Again, soul simply means person.
    • And the clincher, if you have access to a concordance, is to look up the usage in the original Hebrew. The word soul has no salient supernatural use. It is applied to people, animals and even internal organs.
  5. Biblically, the hope of humanity lies in the resurrection. It makes no sense to say that a being that never really dies is resurrected - these are mutually exclusive pathways. Resurrection is our only hope, as Paul says in such memorable terms: "If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die" (I Cor. 15:32). There is no other hope.

3.     Precis of the True Bible Teaching Position.

What is True Bible Teaching

We believe that man is created out of the dust of the earth. By the dust of the earth, we understand the elements and compounds that make up all things. This body is given life, or breath, by God. Upon death, our breath leaves our body, our bodies return to the soil. Our only hope lies in the resurrection from the dead when Christ returns to this earth. In the meantime, the dead lie in the earth in the sleep of death, alive only in the memory of God, until Jesus comes.

The Source of Evil

Mark 7:20-23This document is divided into three subsections:

  1. Précis of the mainstream Christian Position.
  2. Failings of these teachings.
  3. Précis of the True Bible Teaching Position.

In referring to 'Mainstream Christianity', we speak of the principal Christian groups, such as Catholics, Baptists, Evangelicals, Pentecostals, etc.

Please excuse the directness of the sections below; due to the nature of the media, we felt it was best.

1.    Mainstream Christian Teaching

Mainstream Christianity, in the tradition of most religions throughout history, has long upheld the idea of an external, super-natural source of spiritual evil. Through the use of a collage of unrelated passages stripped from their contexts, a web of scripture has been built to attempt to back up this pre-conceived notion, whose true roots lie in paganism. A fanciful picture has been created of a fallen angel, that at some time in the remote past challenged God's authority in the very heavens, and was then cast down to earth with his followers, the demons. This creature, wholly dedicated to evil, is said to vie with God, using humanity as its' battle scene, and people as its' puppets.

2.    Inherent Flaws:

  1. The Bible persistently points to man as being the originator of sin and evil, and wholly responsible for his actions. (Genesis. 6:5, 8:21; Mark. 7:21-23; Jeremiah. 17:9; James. 1:13-15, 4:1; I Peter. 2:11, 4:2; Romans. 7:17 - 8:13; Galatians. 5:16, etc.). The battle in this world is between flesh and spirit, our will vs. God's will.
  2. God repeatedly affirms his uniqueness and all-powerfullness in the world - including with regards to evil and darkness, and events we, in our limited view of the world and human affairs, regard as evil. There is no other in this universe who would contend with God. (Isaiah. 45:5-7; I Samuel. 2:6-8, Deuteronomy. 32:39; Proverbs. 16:4; Ecclesiastes. :14; Lamentations 3:37-38; Job 2:10, 6:4, 10:2, 19:6 & 21, 23:16, 27:2, etc.)
  3. The biblical labels 'satan' and 'devil', are in fact common terms meaning a generic 'enemy', 'adversary' or 'slanderer'. Any basic concordance study will reveal that these terms are by no means consistently used to denote a particular person or being, rather in each appearance they must be interpreted through their context. Their use ranges from describing the angel God sent to oppose Balaam in Numbers 22, to the judaizers in Paul's letters, to the adversaries raised up by God against Solomon in his old age, to God himself in I Chronicles. 21. Check it out for yourself - the terms refer simply to opposition, even holy opposition against evil.
  4. The passages that have been used historically to support the traditional image of the devil - Isaiah. 14, Ezekiel. 28, Revelation. 12 - are all clear examples of wresting scripture to support a pre-conceived notion. Each of these passages (and a few others) either:
    • clearly identifies the person being referred to as someone human and known in their time,
    • or is prophetic and highly metaphoric, and can't be taken literally without rendering it's context meaningless,
    • or both.

No concise Biblical passage even begins to provide a description and explanation of the traditional devil, where he came from, what he is, and why he is allowed to exist. Only when the Bible is read with the notion already in our minds does it even begin to lend itself to supporting the idea, and only if you are very willing to be persuaded.

  1. If a powerful being devoted to evil exists, either the God of the Bible is not all-powerful, or he allows it's existence. If such a being does exist, and God is allowing it to exist, there is no Biblical explanation for the phenomenon, the knowledge and understanding of which would be essential to our having a clear relationship with God. To assume the existence of such a being without God providing a good explanation would be a tremendous stumbling block in our understanding of who God is. How could we trust in the power of a God who can be successfully rebelled against by his own heavenly minions (angels)? How can we trust a God who allows into the world, to drive us to sin, a being like the traditional devil? In the Lord's Prayer, we pray that 'Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven'. If God's will is done in heaven, the traditional rebellion of Lucifer and his followers (fallen angels) must have been allowed. Biblically, this is entirely untenable.
  2. In I Corinthians. 10:13 it says that God does not allow us to be tempted beyond our strength. This leaves no room for supernatural tempters. Or if we want to say that one does exist, then God must be monitoring him so that he doesn't assault us beyond what we can handle. Again, this picture just doesn't make sense.
  3. And how about events like the flood? If man is not the ultimate source of sin, why destroy mankind in the flood? If mankind was led astray by the machinations of a superhuman evil being, it doesn't seem quite fair (not to mention effective) that man be the one destroyed.
  4. In James 1:13-15, the writer tells his readers to never claim that God tempted them, but rather that temptation comes about as a result of our own desires. This passage is enlightening by it's omission of any external tempter, tempting us. No other alternative is contemplated. James points out two alternatives: either temptation comes from God or from our own minds; and it's not God, so obviously it's our own minds.

3.    What is True Bible Teaching

We believe that God is the only spiritual power that exists. God is all-powerful and wholly good, and would by no means allow rebellion in his own domain, the heavens. Mankind was given free will to either please himself or please God. Because pleasing self provides such visible, short-term sensual benefits, the world is riddled with selfishness and evil. We do evil because we choose it, and we're prejudiced towards it because it feels good, or is convenient in the short term, or whatever. The work of Jesus saves us from our nature, and the sin inherent in it, not from some external source of evil. Throughout the Bible are many vivid metaphors illustrating the reality of sin in the world and in our lives. We believe that ignorance and prejudicial interpretations of the Bible have led to the creation of a unique 'satan' person. This belief in a unique 'satan' or 'devil' is not born out by even the most cursory of studies of the use of these terms in Scripture.

The Da Vinci Code - Fact or Fiction?

When Entertainment is sold as History

Many people enjoy reading novels or watching films as a way of relaxation. Sometimes stories can be based on fact or a true life story. However, this does not stop the author or Hollywood from changing the facts to suit their own agenda.

For instance, in the film U-571 (made by Americans, starring Americans, financed by Americans and aimed at an American audience), it is the Americans who storm a German U-Boat and capture an Enigma cipher machine, thus shortening the second world war and saving thousands of lives. Although it was based on a true story, the reality is that the two most significant Enigma captures involved only Royal Navy ships and seamen.

It has often been said that according to Hollywood, John Wayne won WW2 single-handed and U-571 is merely continuing the distortion of facts to suit the needs of the American Film Industry. But the effect of such films must be to distort the truth and blur myth with reality. Other examples we could mention are of Lord of the Rings fans learning and speaking Elfish and Star Trek fans learning Klingon!

So what has this to do with the Da Vinci Code (book and film)? Simply that people are believing as fact, what they see or read in a work of fiction.

About This Booklet

The only way to become a true Christian is to believe and be baptized into Christ. (See Galatians 3:27). The basis for baptism is individual repentance, and faith in God and his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

But before we can be baptized we must also understand the teaching of the Bible and believe it. (See Acts 8:12). This booklet is to help you do this.

Each section contains one or more numbered (1, 2, 3) questions. And each question has lettered (a, b, c) model answers. The answers are NOT multiple choice or alternative - ALL the answers given are possible, and the more answers the student can give the better.

How to Use This Booklet

·       Don’t rush

Do not try to rush your study of the Bible. Many people need to study the Bible for at least a year or two before they understand it well enough to make a commitment which will affect the rest of their life. If you have already been studying the Bible for a long time, you may be able to work through this booklet within a few months.

·       Make the effort

Work hard at your Bible study. It is worth making a big effort, because eternal life is a big prize. Be prepared to spend at least half an hour a day — every day — reading the Bible and thinking about what you have read.

·       Take one question at a time

Read the question and the answer. Then turn up the Bible passages quoted in the answer. If you are sure that you understand these, and that you agree with the answer, then you can turn to the next question.

·       Ask if you do not understand

Perhaps you will not understand some of the Bible passages, or perhaps you will not agree with some of the answers given. If so, please ask your Christadelphian Bible teacher about them. He or she is always ready to help you.

·       Study with a friend

If possible, try to study the Bible in company with other people. You will be able to help each other, and will make faster progress that way.

·       Read Your Bible daily

As well as working through this booklet, you should read one or more chapters of the Bible each day. The best way to do this is by following a daily program of readings such as given in other booklets; The Bible Companion – or Calendar (all the Bible in 1 year, with the New Testament read twice), or in simplified version The Bible Reading Planner. You can obtain a copy of either from any Christadelphian meeting place or from the publishers of this booklet.

A Warning

You may wonder whether you ought to learn off by heart the questions and answers in this booklet. This is not necessary, or even recommended. The important thing is to remember the ideas taught in the Bible, not the exact words in which they are expressed in this booklet.

If you find it helpful to learn the questions and answers by heart, then do so. But make sure that you really understand and believe the things you have learnt. God wants believers, not people just repeating things they do not understand.

In the days of the apostles it was normal for believers to "make a good confession in front of many witnesses" (1 Timothy 6:12). Therefore before you are baptized into Christ you should be able to answer some questions, to show that you believe the teaching of the Bible and want to obey it. These questions will NOT be exactly the same as the questions in this booklet. You will not be able to answer them unless you have really understood the teaching of this booklet.

So our advice to those who decide to learn off by heart the questions and answers in this booklet is this: be quite sure that you know what they mean.

ONE GOD OR A TRINITY?

The One True GodIntroduction

When we open God’s book the Bible, we read how important it is to have a correct understanding of who God really is, and who Jesus really is. It is so important that Jesus tells us that our salvation depends on it:

"And this is life eternal, that they might know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." (John 17:3)

What does the Bible teach about God?

From the first book to the last, the Bible tells us that God is one God, and there are no other gods besides Him.

Thousands of years ago, God spoke to Israel by Moses, the man who led them out of Egypt:

"Hear O Israel: the LORD our God is one LORD: and you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might." (Deuteronomy 6:4-5)

Later King David of Israel wrote:

"O LORD, there is none like you, neither is there any God beside you, according to all that we have heard with our ears." (1 Chronicles 17:20)

God, speaking through the prophet Isaiah, said:

"You are My witnesses, says the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor will there be after me." (Isaiah 43:10)

"For thus says the LORD who created the heavens, who is God, who formed the earth and made it, who has established it, who did not create it in vain, who formed it to be inhabited: ‘I am the LORD, and there is no other’." (Isaiah 45:18)

When we come to the New Testament, we find the same message repeated, telling us that God is one. The apostle Paul said:

"Yet for us there is only one God, the Father, of Whom are all things, and we for Him, and one lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live." (1 Corinthians 8:6)

"One lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." (Ephesians 4:5-6)

"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ." (1 Timothy 2:5)

There are many other verses throughout the Bible that tell us that God is the only one true God, and that there are no other gods besides Him.

For a more complete list of references consider the following:

God is one:

Job 31:15; Zechariah 14:9; Malachi 2:10; Matthew 19:17, 23:9; Mark 2:7, 10:18, 12:29,32; Luke 18:19; John 8:41; Romans 3:30; 1 Corinthians 8:4,6; Galatians 3:20; Ephesians 4:6; 1 Timothy 2:5; James 2:19, 4:12.

Can Our Planet Be Saved

There is worldwide concern over the state of our planet.

Whether it's pollution, loss of habitat, climate change, lack of good water or loss of animal species. People everywhere worry about how we can stop the deterioration.

Large Asian countries are using increasing quantities of resources which escalate the problem.

On top of this our planet is under threat from population growth, terrorism and nuclear weapons.

But whether mankind succeeds in saving the planet or not, God created the world and he cares what happens to it. His message in the Bible tells us he will send His Son Jesus Christ to rule as king over the earth.

Consider these Bible quotes...

"For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!)."
(Isaiah 45:18)

"While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”
(Genesis 8:22)

"The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus."
(Isaiah 35:1)

“Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
(Acts 1:11)

"Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him."
(Hebrews 9:28)

"And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world, and then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory."
(Luke 21:25-27)

THE OFFER OF LIFE OR DEATH

The Offer of Life or Death“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. For the Lord is your life…  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn awaytheir ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”    2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”   John 4:23-24

SEEK THE TRUTH WITH WRESTED SCRIPTURES!

Use this True Bible Teaching Resource to help understanding some of the more difficult passages that many take in isolation to the rest of the Bible and claim that they teach things that the Bible does not teach.

The Bible is a large book, but it teaches us the truth from beginning to end, therefore anything towards the end of the Bible eg. The New Testament must agree with what is taught in the Old Testament, also remember that the divisions of the Bible into Old and New Testaments is a manmade one, the whole Bible is God's WORD to us and must be undersood consistently as such.
