WHY IS BIBLE TRUTH SO IMPORTANT?

Bible Truth

THE IMPORTANCE OF BIBLE TRUTH

Is Bible Truth important to your Faith and Salvation ie. will you be saved despite what you believe the bible teaches or does it matter what you believe?

Well the word “truth” appears 237 times in the bible, that alone says it must be important!

Therefore it must be important to understand what “truth” is.

A quick scan of the passages using this word “truth” leave us in no doubt that it is not only important, but vital to our salvation.

John 17:3

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 John 5:20

20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

1 Timothy 2:3-4

3For thisis good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Clearly then knowing what is Bible Truth is important and vital, in addition to this we are also warned that some would depart from the “truth”…

1 Timothy 4:1

1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1 John 4:6

6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

From these passages it is very clear that we need to know the “truth” about God and His Son as it is taught to us in the Bible.  This means we must learn what this is from the Bible itself.

Don't let your HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL rest with someone else eg. your pastor or minister, YOU owe it to yourself and your family to be fully convinced of what it is you believe to be sure it HOLDS something REAL for you.

We have all been warned by God that there would be many false teachers and Jesus himself has told us that "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."  See Matthew 7:14

Sadly when Christ returns to this earth, many will only then realise that they have believed in lies Jeremiah 16:19

"19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit."

Don't let this be you or your family!

Truth Seeker - True Bible Teaching

The Bible is our only true source for the Truth!

If we claim to follow Christ we should trust in the Scriptures as confidently as Jesus and his Apostles did:

Jesus said that: The Scripture cannot be broken.  (John 10:35)

Paul said that: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16)

Peter said that: For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21)

The things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven (1 Peter 1:12)

True faith must be founded on a fully inspired Bible.

The OFFER of LIFE or DEATH

God's Offer of LIFE or DEATH

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.   See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him… This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life…"  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

From this passage we see how important it is to each one of us that we seek after God and His Word the Bible to us.

Without this we have no hope of LIFE, but only a future of DEATH.

This Word of God was originally given to the Nation of Israel and later it spread via the Apostles of Christ to the World, that even we today might have this same HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL.

It is UP to YOU then to seek out God’s Word, to KNOW what is the TRUTH of God’s Word so that you and your family might KNOW the way of LIFE ETERNAL and the great HOPE of living in God’s Kingdom on EARTH.

Do not let your HOPE rest upon others and most importantly on what others teach, search it out for yourself because we have been warned that the churches would be astray from God’s word in the last days.

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”   2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Godis a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

The Bible Is Our ONLY Guide

The Holy BibleThe Bible provides us with plain Scriptural Teaching for the True Followers of Christ

The statements on this guide represent what we believe is true Bible teaching. The statements are deliberately challenging, asking every reader to compare his own opinions with the plain teaching of Scripture, examining carefully the Bible passages offered as proof. If, as a result, a change of mind and heart is called for, there will be no doubt that the teaching of the Lord, and the book he trusted, must be followed and not what the churches teach.

All Scripture quotations are taken from the New King James (also known as the Revised Authorized) Version of the Bible.

True Bible Teaching - Gods Word Explained

Why do some choose to IGNORE God?WHY DO MANY PEOPLE WILLINGLY

IGNORE THE EXISTENCE OF A GOD?

WHY DO MANY PEOPLE IGNORE THE

OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE FOREVER?

Man spends billions of dollars every year researching cures for life’s diseases in an attempt to prolonging man's life, people collectively spend billions on trying to live longer whether in fitness quests or healthy lifestyle pursuits or on claimed medicinal solutions.

Yet overall man lives no longer today than he did in years gone by, depending of course on where you live.

So why is this?

Why does mankind spend so much to gain so little?

Why is it that man does not read the Bible and there find the answer to living FOREVER?

What’s more the ETERNAL LIFE God offers us is FREE ie. It costs no money at all, just time to invest in reading and understanding God’s true PURPOSE with mankind and this WORLD.

So why would people ignore the existence of God?

Some may answer this by saying that God is no longer relevant in this technologically advanced world in which we live?

So some may well think that God is an outdated belief.

But just hang on a minute!

Firstly, did you know that today’s advanced Technology was foretold in the Bible?

Yes it was, Daniel 2,500 years ago said that in the ‘last days’ man’s knowledge would be increased?  Have you even wondered why it is that man has only just in the last 100yrs of his existence on the earth discovered so much and advanced so much by comparison to all the years that went before??

Daniel 12:4

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”

So here we learn that in the “time of the end” the “knowledge” of man would be increased.  Well that explains a lot doesn't it ie. How was that man with at least 6,000 years of existence on the earth has only learn't so much in the last 100 years?  Well now you know why this is.

But despite this, and how fantastic this is, what has man really gained from this?

Does he live any longer?  Absolutely not, those who lived before the flood lived until they were 1,000 + years old?

Who is the Real Anti-Christ

The Anti-Christ RevealedProphecy Is A Popular Topic Today

Bible prophecy is becoming an extremely popular subject for discussion in today's Christian world. Ten or fifteen years ago it was difficult to find any books on prophecy in Bible book stores, but now entire shelves are stocked with them. Furthermore, we find in today's Christian television and radio programs that prophecy is becoming an increasingly popular subject, and as time goes on, it seems to be gaining a wider audience than ever before.

Many people have now realized that the return of the Jews to their land and the rebirth of the nation of Israel is an example of Bible prophecy being fulfilled in our day. They further have seen that prophecy indicates Jesus Christ will soon return and Russia will eventually attack and temporarily defeat Israel. However, when we examine in more detail the events which will occur at the time of the end, we find there are many interpretations as to when Jesus will return and how the end of this age will come about.  The Teaching of Anti-Christ is just one of those we want to spend a few moments looking at now.

What Does the Bible Teach?

Before we examine the ideas of the future Antichrist theory, let us review what the scriptures teach regarding the return of Jesus. The Bible describes several specific events which Jesus, acting under God's authority, will accomplish when he returns to the earth. It is important to note and understand these events since most in Christendom today are unfamiliar with them. Five of the most prominent ones are as follows:

1. THE MILITARY DEFEAT OF RUSSIA

In Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 the prophet describes the invasion of Israel by Russia's army. Though Russia is not mentioned specifically, the names given: Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal exactly correspond to the geographical area of Russia at the time Ezekiel wrote.

"Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophecy against him. . .'' (38:2, NASB)

According to the prophecy, Russia will attack the young nation of Israel - ". . . in the latter years you will go against the land that is restored from war, the land where people were gathered from many nations upon the mountains of Israel . . . You will advance . . . you will be like a cloud covering the land . . ." (38:8-9)

In the midst of an apparent victory, Russia will meet with sudden destruction. God working and manifested through Jesus and the immortalized saints, will defeat the invading Russian army.

". . . when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, says the Lord God, my wrath will be roused . . . I will enter into judgment with him; and I will rain upon him . . . torrential rains and hailstones, fire and brimstone. So I will show my greatness and my holiness and make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord. (38:17-23, see also 39:1-6)

2. A NEW COVENANT TO BE MADE WITH ISRAEL

Following the destruction of the Russian army, the Jews in Israel will realize that it was Jesus who saved them from certain annihilation and will recognize him for the first time as their Saviour (Zechariah 12:10-14). A new covenant will then be made by Jesus with the Jews:

"Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah . . .'' (Jeremiah 31:31)

"I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will bless them and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. My dwelling place shall be with them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Then the nations will know that I the Lord sanctify, Israel, when my sanctuary is in the midst of them for evermore." (Ezekiel 37:26-28, see also Jeremiah 32:36-41 and Romans 11:25-27).

3. THE REBUILDING OF THE TEMPLE TN JERUSALEM

In Ezekiel chapters 40 through 48 and again in Zechariah 14:20-21 there is a clear indication that the temple first built by Solomon, rebuilt by Nehemiah and destroyed in A.D. 70 by the Romans, will be re-established in Jerusalem. It will be situated on Mt. Zion, and animal sacrifices will again be offered by the people.

"And on that day there shall be inscribed on the bells of the horses, "Holy to the LORD." And the pots in the house of the LORD shall be as the bowls before the altar; {21} and every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be sacred to the LORD of hosts, so that all who sacrifice may come and take of them and boil the flesh of the sacrifice in them. And there shall no longer be a trader in the house of the LORD of hosts on that day." (Zechariah 14:20-21, see also Isaiah 56:7)

BABYLON MYSTERY RELIGION AND ROMAN CATHOLICISM

All Roads Lead to Babylon

Tower of BabelThere are only two religions: (1) the Truth of the Almighty, as expressed in His Word, the Bible; and (2) every other belief.  These two religions cannot be mixed, without disastrous results.  Babylon is the source of false religion, Revelation 17:1-6.  When John wrote the Revelation, Babylon, as a city, had already been destroyed and left in ruins, as Old Testament prophets had foretold, Isaiah 13:19-22; Jeremiah 51-52.  Though the city of Babylon was destroyed, its religious concepts and customs had spread around the world.  Today’s myriad of false religions have their origin in ancient Babylon.

Ralph Woodrow, in his book, Babylon Mystery Religion (first published in 1966, now out of print), clearly traces the practices and teachings of ancient Babylon, and their modern counterparts in the Roman Catholic Church and her Protestant daughters.  Babylonian ideas are by no means isolated to professing Christianity.  Since nominal Christianity is so permeated with false doctrines from Babylon, we should carefully study this problem, so as to avoid Babylonianism.  Today, there is an almost irresistible tide within Christianity to turn aside to ideas of Babylon and Catholicism.  All too many believers are taking one of the many roads to Rome and Babylon.  Here is a summary of Woodrow’s excellent book, Babylon Mystery Religion.

Nimrod and Semiramis

Nimrod StatueLegends are difficult to prove; they are almost impossible to disprove.  Nimrod, the mighty hunter before (against) the Lord, was the first to organize cities into a kingdom under human rule, Genesis 10:8-10.  This much we know from the Bible.  The name Nimrod comes from the word, marad, meaning “he rebelled.”  Legend has it that Nimrod married his own mother, Semiramis.  After Nimrod died, Semiramis claimed Nimrod was the sun-god.  She later had a child, Tammuz, whom she claimed was Nimrod reborn, supernaturally conceived, the promised seed, the “savior.”  Semiramis developed a religion of mother and child worship.  Symbols were used to develop a “mystery” religion.  Since Nimrod was believed to be the sun-god (Baal), fire was considered his earthly representation.  In other forms, Nimrod was symbolized by sun images, fish, trees, pillars, and animals.  Tammuz, son of the sun-god, was represented by the golden calf.  And so it was, that mankind followed this religion of worshipping the creation (creature) rather than the Creator, Romans 1:21-26.

Whether or not the Nimrod-Semiramis-Tammuz legends are completely historical or not is immaterial.  The result of these legends is that mankind in general, has followed variations of one kind or another, of the religion of Babylon, to this day.

Rome, the greatest and longest-lived human world-ruling empire, assimilated religions from her many conquered territories.  All these religions had commonalities, for they all came from Babylon.  These practices infiltrated and overcame the professing Christian Church, which later came to be dominated by Rome itself.

Mother and Child Worship; Mary Worship

SemiramisPictures are worth a thousand words. If you doubt the common origin of many pagan practices, pictures showing the striking similarity should convince you.  Many pagan religions had mother and child worship, whether Devaki and Crishna (India), Isis and Horus (Egypt), Venus or Fortuna and Jupiter (Rome), etc.  Each nation gave different names to essentially the same god or goddess.

A mother goddess, or “queen of heaven,” was said to have given miraculous birth to a son.  Ancient Israel sometimes followed this false religion, Judges 2:13, 10:6; I Samuel 7:3-4, 12:10; I Kings 11:5; II Kings 23:13; Jeremiah 44:17-19, with disastrous results.  In Ephesus, Semiramis was worshipped as the great mother Diana, the many-breasted goddess.  This form of mother-child worship was followed throughout all Asia and the world, Acts 19:27.

Mary worship had no place in the early Christian Church.  Even the Catholic Encyclopedia (article, “Virgin Mary,” pp. 459-460) admits that in the first centuries, A.D., there are no traces of the worship of Mary.  By the fourth century, the time of Emperor Constantine, worshipping Mary as a goddess and offering cakes at her shrine, began to come into the professing Church.  In A.D. 431, the Council of Ephesus made Mary worship official.  By mixing beliefs already being practiced (Diana of Ephesus worshipped as a goddess) with nominal Christianity, so-called Church “fathers” reasoned that they could gain more converts.  It is the same old story.  Apostates believe that lowering God’s standards results in a better form of religion, more acceptable and popular to the masses.

The Bible is clear that there is only one mediator between God and man, the man Christ, I Timothy 2:5.  Yet Roman Catholicism teaches that Mary is also a “mediator.”  Catholics offer prayers to Mary, burn candles to Mary, and have statues of Mary, which came directly from their pagan counterparts.  Isis, the Egyptian goddess, was known as “mother of God,” just as Mary is titled by Catholics.  Weigall, in The Paganism in Our Christianity, page 129, says, “When Christianity triumphed, these paintings and figures became those of the madonna and child, without any break in continuity: no archaeologist, in fact, can now tell whether some of these objects represent the one or the other.”

In pagan religion, the mother was worshipped as much (or more) than her son!  Noted Roman Catholic writer Alphonsus Liguori stressed that prayers addressed to Mary are much more effectual than to Christ.  Mary is deified as the “queen of heaven,” born without sin (Immaculate Conception), the “mother of God,” exactly as pagan worshippers deified Isis, Venus, Ashtoreth, etc.  Jesus did not teach that Mary was superior to other human beings.  When someone mentioned His mother and brethren, Jesus asked, “Who is My mother? and who are My brethren?”  Then, stretching forth His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold My mother and My brethren!  For WHOSOEVER shall do the will of My Father which is in heaven, the same is My brother, and sister, and MOTHER,” Matthew 12:46-50.  Anyone who does the will of God is on the same level as Mary.

Noah and the Deluge - Part One

Noah and the Flood

And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD (Gen. 6:7, 8).

The story of Noah and the flood is probably one of the most well-known sagas in the Bible. Many great works of art, books, movies, TV specials and children’s toys celebrate the event. There was a time in the heyday of Bible criticism in the 19th century that pundits relegated the story of Noah and the flood to myth and legend, but that is certainly no longer true. Biblical, historical and geological evidence today are so compelling that the only argument that remains is the extent of the flood. However, before we focus on the contentious issue of the extent let us first review the persuasive scriptural and historical evidence of the certainty of a massive deluge, the likes of which the earth has not seen since, that annihilated all humanity save eight souls.

Referred to throughout scripture

The existence of the patriarch Noah and the events associated with his calling are amply spelled out in the scriptures in Genesis chapters 6 – 10, and in many other places in both the Old and New Testaments. The name Noah means rest and he is indeed appropriately named.1 He provided a “rest” for his family and through his righteousness we can be thankful for the continued existence of the human race.

Noah’s name is evoked by the prophet Isaiah to confirm God’s mercy (Isa. 54:9). He is mentioned by Ezekiel as a notable illustration of righteousness (Ezek.14:14, 20). Noah is held up as one of the heroes of the faith by the author of Hebrews (Heb. 11:7) and the deluge story is confirmed once again by the writings of the apostle Peter (I Peter 3:20; II Peter 2:5). Noah is also mentioned in the lineage of our Lord Jesus Christ (Luke3:36).

What absolutely clinches it for any believing Christian is the endorsement of our Lord, who uses Noah as an exhortation in watchfulness that could well apply to these latter days (Matt. 24:37-38; Luke 17:26,27). There is also a parallel between Jesus and Noah that is understood when we realize Noah provided a refuge, a rest, from the judgments of the Almighty in his day and likewise the Lord Jesus Christ will provide the ultimate rest for the righteous in the kingdom of God: There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God (Heb. 4:9).

Thus, while one might quibble about some of the details, from the Biblical point of view, the existence of a man of righteousness called Noah and the story associated with his construction of a gigantic ark for preserving his family and animal life from a massive deluge is beyond question. What about the historical evidence?

Extra-biblical evidence

The historical evidence is extensive; more than 100 “deluge” stories have been documented from cultures spanning the globe.2 The most famous of these tales was recorded sometime between 2000 and 1700 B.C. and is part of what is known as the “Gilgamesh” epic. In the years 1852 and 1853, the British archaeologists Layard and Rassam excavated the library of the Assyrian King Ashur-bani-pal (668-627 B.C.) at his palace in Nineveh (near modern day Mosul in Iraq). The collection of that library consisted of 25,073 cuneiform tablets, which are now in the possession of the British Museum in London. Gilgamesh was a legendary Sumerian king of Erech who ruled in Mesopotamia prior to the conquest by the Babylonians. Tablet XI of the history of this king is on view at the British Museum; a portion of the description accompanying this display reads: “…(this tablet) describes how the gods sent a flood to destroy the world. Like Noah, Utnapishtim was forewarned and built an ark to house and preserve living things. After the flood he sent out birds to look for dry land.”3

Angels – God’s Servants

Angels are mentioned over 300 times in the Bible. But many people do not know much about them. Popularly we have the image of angels as ‘men with wings, dressed in white’, but really have little idea of what angels do. The purpose of this article is to learn more about angels so that we may be more aware of the way God works in the world, and in our lives.

Angels of God

Firstly let us look at the Hebrew and Greek words used for what appears in our Bible as the English word “angel”.

The Hebrew word is ‘mal-awk’ and it comes from a root meaning to despatch as a deputy. It occurs 111 times, “messenger” 98 times, “ambassadors” four times, and “variant” once. It is used of one who is: 1 messenger, representative. 1a messenger. 1b angel. 1c the theophanic angel.

The Greek word is ‘ang-el-os’ and is derived from a word that means ‘to bring tidings’.

There are 186 occurrences; AV translates as “angel” 179 times, and “messenger” seven times.  It is used of one who is: 1 a messenger, envoy, one who is sent, an angel, a messenger from God.

So in both cases we see that the word “angel” in our bible is used to describe one who is a messenger or representative of another.  It has been used of both messengers of God and of men.

THE WORSHIP OF ANGELS

However we must be careful not to lose balance in our appreciation of this subject. People’s natural curiosity concerning these beings has sometimes led them into complicated fantasies about the hierarchies of the heavens, into inventing names for angels who are never mentioned in the Bible, and stories about them. Some have even gone as far as to claim visions of angels.

Paul warned the early church against this kind of unhealthy interest in angels:

“Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up”. (Colossians 2:18)

As Paul says, we must not worship angels. An example of an angel saying the same thing was recorded by John:

“And when I (John) had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. But he said unto me, ‘Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers the prophets and of all who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” (Revelation 22:8-9).

Angels doing God’s work

Angels have played an important role in revealing God’s purpose. They have often been closely involved with important events in His plan to save mankind and the earth. For example,

  • · The angel Gabriel told Mary that she would give birth to the Christ (Luke 1:26-38).
  • ·  Angels also informed the shepherds about his birth (Luke 2:8-14).
  • ·  Angels told people about the resurrection of Jesus (Matt. 28:2-7).
  • ·  When Jesus went up to heaven, angels told the disciples that Jesus would come again in the same way. (Acts 1:11)

The birth, resurrection, and return of Jesus, are among the most important events in God’s dealings with man. So angels were chosen to announce them.

THE APPEARANCE OF ANGELS

Often, angels appear to have looked like people. In Genesis 19:5 we read that two angels came to Sodom, and, that later that night, the men of Sodom called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight...?”, making it clear that those men thought that the angels were ordinary men. Likewise we read:

“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so some people have entertained angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2)

This shows that those angels appeared as people.

Similarly, when Daniel’s friends were thrown into the fiery furnace and were saved by an angel, Nebuchadnezzar said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire.” (Daniel 3:25).

Nebuchadnezzar goes on to say that the fourth “looks like a son of the gods”, but his appearance was otherwise as a man.

Sometimes, as in the case of the angel above, angels look like people, but with shining faces or shining clothes, or something else quite distinctive.

At the resurrection of Jesus, for example, there was an angel like this:

“his appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.” (Matthew 28:2-3).

However this glory is not unique to the angels. For example the Bible says of Moses that:

Our Belief in God

There are, and always have been, many opinions on this subject.

·       Is there a God?

·       Need we believe in God?

·       Is belief in God an outdated idea?

The questions and opinions go on, and on. Some people who believe in God are highly educated; others who do not are equally intelligent and nowadays often outspoken. Is there any certain way of knowing?

Does it depend on education or on current thinking?

EVIDENCE IS ALL AROUND US

Consider the following passage from Romans chapter 1:

What may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools … (Romans 1:19–22)

The Evidence of Creation is All Around USThe argument of the apostle Paul is that the invisible things of God can be seen. But, how can invisible things be seen? His explanation is:

“By the things that are made”.

The evidence for the existence of an eternal power and Godhead – which we cannot see – is to be clearly seen, or evidenced, by what we can see in the natural world around us.

FIRST CENTURY THOUGHT

Bear in mind that these words were penned about 2,000 years ago, a long time before the Hubble telescope or Electron microscope. Paul was saying that what we see with our naked eyes of the natural world provides us with ample evidence that an almighty and eternal power exists which created and brought order to everything around us. We don’t need to depend on the thoughts of mankind: the latest scientific discovery or theory, or the continuing arguments of men. Evidence for the existence of God is all around us, if we are prepared to look and think about it.

The Heavens Declare the Glory of GodNotice too that to deny the existence of God, since He has given adequate evidence to convince us, leaves us in the apostle’s words, “without excuse”. It is inexcusable to deny the existence of God, regardless of what current philosophy or polite society might think.

Do we first need to believe the Bible to accept this proof? Not so! The Bible is pointing out that the evidence for an eternal power and Godhead is all around. If you can accept that, then clearly the Bible will have other good things you want to know about.

DOES GOD HAVE A PURPOSE?

The trees, the flowers, the beauty of the natural world, the stars; none of these things can answer that question.

For this information we need words. Such a revelation exists in a book, the Bible.

The Bible claims to be the Word of God. Test it for yourself:

·       Look at the evidence of fulfilled prophecy, for example seen in the crucifixion of Christ as prophesied in the Old Testament.

·       Read the prophecies of Divine intervention in world affairs affecting nations.

·       See the amazing internal harmony of the sixty-six books written over a period of about 1,500 years.

The Word of GodThese are topics which are extensively dealt with in this website. The evidence is ALL RIGHT HERE, all you need do is put the time in to read and research this for yourself.  Such an investment of your time will be repaid by things which no amount of money in this world can buy.

There is an ‘Eternal power and Godhead’.

The natural world gives its testimony and the Bible demonstrates itself to be of divine origin, adding to the information we have and leading us to an understanding of God’s plan with the earth. Here’s just one statement of divine intent:

For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens, who is God, who formed the earth and made it, who has established it, who did not create it in vain, who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the Lord, and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:18).

What a sure foundation in a world of ever changing opinions. Let’s not “profess ourselves to be wise, and become fools”, but rather accept the evidence from nature and the Bible, and in so doing we will gain a real hope in life.

Well did the Psalmist write:

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.  Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge.  There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.  Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world ...The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes (Psalm 19:1-4,7-8)

Noah and the Deluge - Part Two

Noah and the Flood

And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. (Gen. 8:4)

If the deluge in Noah’s day was just a local flood compassing only the Tigris/Euphrates river valleys, how then did Noah’s ark end up in the mountains of Ararat far north of the Persian Gulf outlets of these two waterways? Bible skeptics dismiss the Ararat beaching claiming it is obviously a mistake, or an exaggeration and instead suggest that Noah’s barge came to rest on an island in the Tigris/Euphrates delta or beyond. They confine the Genesis flood to the Tigris/Euphrates region and presume that only a small number of people died, namely, those living near the rivers who did not have sufficient time to escape to higher ground. Bible skeptics downgrade the period of rain from 40 days and nights to 6 days and nights, preferring the Gilgamesh account to Genesis. Their arguments hinge on the assertion that such a prolonged period of rain would not be consistent with the climate of Mesopotamia. An attack is also made on the biblical record of the size, shape and carrying capacity of Noah’s Ark. Finally, they make the point that archaeological evidence proving the deluge appears to be lacking.

This chapter will consider the validity of the arguments of Bible skeptics who diminish every aspect of the account of the flood in Genesis, but cannot deny the overwhelming historical memory of a gigantic deluge that is ingrained in the cultures of people all over the globe. I will not attempt to address the extreme form of Bible critic who dismisses the entire scriptures as mere myth and legend. Such a person is beyond the scope of consideration in these essays (though it is hoped that the rationality of the arguments presented might persuade them to examine further the claims of the scriptures). These writings are aimed at the person who respects equally the Bible and science, realizing that the Lord God is the author of both (Psa. 89:11; Psa. 104:24; I Cor. 14:33).

The extent of the flood

Let us revisit the extent of the deluge. In the previous chapter we presented evidence that the flood was neither global, nor did it cover Mount Everest. However, the other side of the coin is not necessarily a local flood confined to the Tigris/Euphrates valleys. The Bible record says that it rained forty days and forty nights (Gen. 7:4, 12) and that the fountains of the great deep were broken up (Gen. 7:11). What does this mean in terms of the possible extent and severity of the deluge?

Skeptics ask: where did all the water come from and where did it go?

a) Rainfall

We can dismiss the notion that it rained only 6 days and nights as told in the Gilgamesh epic. That epic is so replete with exaggeration and tales of multiple pagan gods doing magical things that we can safely say it is unreliable. Given the authenticity of the scriptures that has been verified over and over again by historical and archaeological evidence, to say nothing of the moral and prophetic word that is unique, there is every reason for us to accept the 40-day/night-rainfall period specified in Genesis. Consider the result of such a rainfall. The atmosphere of this planet can absorb water vapor from the seas to an extent limited by solar energy. We can reasonably estimate the maximum severity of a possible storm by checking the historical weather records. For example, one of the largest storms ever recorded was tropical cyclone Domoina, which poured 21.34 inches of rain in a 24-hour period measured by the gauges at the Cape St. Lucia lighthouse on January 31, 1984.1 Since 1 inch of rain equals 12 inches of snowfall the Domoina cyclone was equivalent to receiving 244 inches of snow in my hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan in one day! While one might say that this is unlikely, nevertheless it did happen toSt. Lucia. One can see that this is a truly enormous amount of precipitation for a twenty-four hour period and a lot of energy had to be poured into that storm.

Is your knowledge of Bible TRUTH

and is your BELIEF and WORSHIP of the

ONE TRUE GOD able to SAVE YOU?

JOHN CHAPTER 17
"1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do."

The Greek word for "know" is 'genosko' and it means to have a thorough intellectual understanding of what something is all about.

Do you have this understanding of God

and His Son Jesus Christ?

The need for this full understanding of the TRUTH is further underlined by Christ's words in John 17:17

We are sanctified in our understanding of God's word of Truth ie. set apart us special unto God and Christ, without this we cannot be saved.  Just as Israel were not saved when they strayed from their TRUE knowledge of God.

God's special people the nation of Israel were destroyed for lack of knowledge as we read in Hosea

4:1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee,

6:6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

The Apostle Paul has warned us that some would not be in the Faith (ie. the true knowledge of God and Christ)...

1 Timothly 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
And again by the Apostle Peter...

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

And in 2 Thessalonians where the Apostle Paul tells us that some would fall away from "the Truth" he says that this would be becaused they had lost their love of the Truth and had chosen rather to believe a lie.

2 Thessalonians 2:10-12

"10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

And so the Apostle Paul counselled us all to Work out OUR OWN SALVATION...

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

You owe it to yourself and your family to seek the Truth

about God, His Son Jesus and His purpose with you

and this earth.

Overwhelming Evidence that the Bible is TRUE!

On the front cover of a issue of TIME magazine the question was posed: "Is the Bible Fact or Fiction?" The question was re-phrased for the article which appeared inside and headed "Are the Bible’s Stories True?"Archeaological Sites in Jerusalem

This issue—the Truth of the Bible—is of vital importance to all of us, and it is therefore a matter of great concern as to just how the evidence is presented to the public.

This issue is of importance in at least two areas of consideration. First, there is the personal aspect: the Bible places before us matters affecting life and death. Belief and obedience, says Scripture, will bring us life, whereas unbelief and sin will result in death. (Deut. 30:19; Mark 16:15. 16; Romans 6:23; John 5:28, 29). In asking whether or not the Bible is true, we are at the same time asking whether or not its promise of life is trustworthy.

Secondly, there is a social aspect: acceptance or the non-acceptance of Biblical principles and values will necessarily have its impact upon the philosophy and behaviour of a nation or society. This, says the Bible, will have its consequences for people and nations—e.g. Gen. 12:3; Psalm 9:17-20; Jer. 18:7-10. The nation that turns its back upon the word of God and His teaching cannot expect His protection or blessing; that is the essence of the Bible’s message to society in general. There is thus a weighty responsibility resting upon those who present evidence one way or the other to the public.

The question before us also concerns the integrity of those who wrote the Scriptures, as well as of those who later endorsed them. This of course includes the recorded statement of the Lord Jesus Christ himself. His words were: "...had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?" (John 5:46-47). So the question arises as to whether even the words of Christ are to be believed. "Did Moses really exist?" asks Time’s journalist. The question echoes the scepticism and the agnosticism that is both fashionable and respectable with so many leading scholars and academics today. It reflects the unbelief which we see in modern society.

Debating the Evidence

Evidence for the truth of the Bible is overwhelming, but that fact is little known or appreciated by the general public. Alongside this article we have tabled over 40 major archaeological discoveries which endorse Scripture—and this is by no means exhaustive. It is but one line of evidence and should not really be considered in isolation from other fields such as the testimony of historians, of certain scientific disciplines (Medical science for example: see The Bible Magazine Vol. 3 Issue no. 3; and Vol. 6 Issue no. 1); of prophecy and its amazing fulfillment as well as other areas. To do the issue the justice it deserves, there is a need to view the whole forest as well as examining individual trees! Unfortunately this rarely happens.

The article in Time has underscored the fierce debate that surrounds almost every significant find made by archaeologists, "the whole subject is touchy" says the article, "because almost everyone has a stake in Scripture. Jewish and Christian ultraconservatives don’t like hearing that parts of the Bible could be fictional. Atheists can’t wait to prove that the whole thing is a fairy tale..." If anything, this under-states the case. In examining several years issues of the magazine Biblical Archaeology Review one has to note the fact that these debates can get not only lively, but at times downright hostile! Professional careers can be—and have been—made or broken in the heat of battle.

JerusalemAmongst fierce battles in the last decade or so has been one over the discovery in the mid-1970’s of the famous "Ebla tablets". On this controversy an Italian archaeologist, Prof. Giovanni Pettinato was roundly discredited for saying that the Ebla tablets referred to Sodom and Gomorrah and other Biblical cities. Not only were professionals involved, but political pressure from the Syrian Government was brought to bear. This was because anti-Zionist elements did not want to see any evidence brought to light which might support the book of Genesis—and therefore Israel’s early claim to the land of Canaan. As scholars debate about the Ebla tablets, it could be many years before the real truth is known, if ever.

Some people might ask - How do we know what Bible Teaching is True?

Some have even said that surely only God can know this??  But how can this be, God has told us that He has given to us His Word that we might become "wise unto salvation"  2 Timothy 3:15  and that by "Knowing the Only TRUE God and his Son is the hope of Life Eternal"  John 17:3

So it is UP to US to figure out what is the TRUE TEACHING of the BIBLE and it is not that hard to do, but it does require OUR / YOUR input to do this.  Read this article below to help you get started on this ETERNAL LIFE rewarding journey.

Beware of False Bible TeachingHow to Identify

False Teaching or

Apostasy?

What will we cover?

1.  What do we mean by the word “apostasy”?

2.  Why is this important?

3.  Some examples from the Bible showing God’s view of this subject.

4.  A warning to US!

5.  A Great Apostasy foretold by the Bible to Come!

6.  An important message to us from Christ

1.  What do we mean by term “Apostasy”

·       A Greek work  ‘apostasia’  signifies: ‘a falling away’

·       It only occurs twice in the NT

·       The best known of these is found in 2Thessalonians 2:3

·       “Let no man deceive you by any means; for that day (Christ’s coming) shall not come, except there come a falling away (apostasia) first…”

“...a falling away…” from what?

·       From the Teaching of the Apostles concerning the kingdom of God and the Lord Jesus Christ

  • Mark 16:15-16

§  “And he (Jesus) said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved…”

  • 2 Thessalonians 2:15

§  “Therefore brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught whether by word, or our epistle”

2.  Why was this so Important?

  • Because prior to Paul preaching the Gospel message to them they were;

§  “…without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world”   (Eph 2:12)

  • So important was this new knowledge called “truth” or “the faith” that they were told by Paul to believe no other;

§  “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”  (Gal 1:8)

"the faith" used 42 times in the New Testament

  • I Corinthians 16:13

§  "Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong."

  • 2 Corinthians 13:5

§  "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves."

  • Philippians 1:27

§  "...that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel."

  • Colossians 2:7

§  "Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught..."

  • 1 Timothy 4:1

§  "Now the spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith..."

  • Jude vs3

§  "Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints."

3.  SOME EXAMPLES FROM THE BIBLE SHOWING GOD'S VIEW OF THIS SUBJECT.

The Bible records some early examples of Apostasy and its consequences for our learning

  • §  Cain and Abel
  • §  The Nation of Israel

THE OFFER OF LIFE OR DEATH

The Offer of Life or Death“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. For the Lord is your life…  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn awaytheir ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”    2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”   John 4:23-24

The Bible is a large book, but it teaches us the truth from beginning to end, therefore anything towards the end of the Bible eg. The New Testament must agree with what is taught in the Old Testament, also remember that the divisions of the Bible into Old and New Testaments is a manmade one, the whole Bible is God's WORD to us and must be undersood consistently as such.
