True Bible Teaching

An independent study of the Bible will reveal that the following are key True Bible Teachings:

  1. The Bible is God's word and the only message from him. It is without error, except for copying and translation errors.
  2. There is only one God - the Father. The Holy Spirit is God's power.
  3. Jesus is the Son of God, and a human being, through his mother Mary.
  4. Man is mortal, having no existence when dead.
  5. By living a sinless life, ending with his sacrificial death by crucifixion, Jesus has opened the way of salvation from death.
  6. Belief and baptism are essential steps to salvation.
  7. God raised Jesus from death. Jesus is currently in Heaven, on God's right hand. He will one day return.
  8. When Jesus returns, he will raise his "sleeping" followers from death and grant immortality to the faithful who have tried to live by God's precepts.
  9. His followers will help him to rule, bringing justice, righteousness and peace to the whole world - the Kingdom of God.

WHY IS BIBLE TRUTH SO IMPORTANT?

Bible Truth

THE IMPORTANCE OF BIBLE TRUTH

Is Bible Truth important to your Faith and Salvation ie. will you be saved despite what you believe the bible teaches or does it matter what you believe?

Well the word “truth” appears 237 times in the bible, that alone says it must be important!

Therefore it must be important to understand what “truth” is.

A quick scan of the passages using this word “truth” leave us in no doubt that it is not only important, but vital to our salvation.

John 17:3

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 John 5:20

20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

1 Timothy 2:3-4

3For thisis good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Clearly then knowing what is Bible Truth is important and vital, in addition to this we are also warned that some would depart from the “truth”…

1 Timothy 4:1

1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1 John 4:6

6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

From these passages it is very clear that we need to know the “truth” about God and His Son as it is taught to us in the Bible.  This means we must learn what this is from the Bible itself.

Don't let your HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL rest with someone else eg. your pastor or minister, YOU owe it to yourself and your family to be fully convinced of what it is you believe to be sure it HOLDS something REAL for you.

We have all been warned by God that there would be many false teachers and Jesus himself has told us that "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."  See Matthew 7:14

Sadly when Christ returns to this earth, many will only then realise that they have believed in lies Jeremiah 16:19

"19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit."

Don't let this be you or your family!

Truth Seeker - True Bible Teaching

The Bible is our only true source for the Truth!

If we claim to follow Christ we should trust in the Scriptures as confidently as Jesus and his Apostles did:

Jesus said that: The Scripture cannot be broken.  (John 10:35)

Paul said that: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16)

Peter said that: For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21)

The things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven (1 Peter 1:12)

True faith must be founded on a fully inspired Bible.

The OFFER of LIFE or DEATH

God's Offer of LIFE or DEATH

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.   See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him… This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life…"  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

From this passage we see how important it is to each one of us that we seek after God and His Word the Bible to us.

Without this we have no hope of LIFE, but only a future of DEATH.

This Word of God was originally given to the Nation of Israel and later it spread via the Apostles of Christ to the World, that even we today might have this same HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL.

It is UP to YOU then to seek out God’s Word, to KNOW what is the TRUTH of God’s Word so that you and your family might KNOW the way of LIFE ETERNAL and the great HOPE of living in God’s Kingdom on EARTH.

Do not let your HOPE rest upon others and most importantly on what others teach, search it out for yourself because we have been warned that the churches would be astray from God’s word in the last days.

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”   2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Godis a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

The Bible Is Our ONLY Guide

The Holy BibleThe Bible provides us with plain Scriptural Teaching for the True Followers of Christ

The statements on this guide represent what we believe is true Bible teaching. The statements are deliberately challenging, asking every reader to compare his own opinions with the plain teaching of Scripture, examining carefully the Bible passages offered as proof. If, as a result, a change of mind and heart is called for, there will be no doubt that the teaching of the Lord, and the book he trusted, must be followed and not what the churches teach.

All Scripture quotations are taken from the New King James (also known as the Revised Authorized) Version of the Bible.

True Bible Teaching - Gods Word Explained

CONVINCING PROOF THAT GOD EXISTS

by Fred Pearce

The Bible is a most remarkable book. Its account of the origin of evil; its unparalleled record of God'sConvincing Proof That God Exists dealings with the nation of Israel; its searching message through their prophets; its "good news" proclaimed by Jesus Christ and his apostles; above all, its unerring analysis of the weaknesses of human nature and its contrasting portrayal of the holiness, the truth and the mercy of God, made especially plain in the person of His Son - all these are outstanding features found in no other book in the world. They prompted Henry Rogers over l00 years ago to declare: "The Bible is not such a book as man would have written if he could, nor could have written if he would."( In The Superhuman Origin of the Bible Deduced from Itself.) In other words, God is needed to explain its existence.

In this short work we shall consider one of the Bible's unique features: its prophecy. Now strictly prophecy is not just foretelling the future. A prophet was one who "spoke for" another, a spokesman; and prophecy was the message the prophet spoke on behalf of God. But since Bible prophecy contains quite a lot of "prediction", or foretelling future events, for our purpose here we shall take the term in that sense.

Who has the Power of Prophecy?

But first we must settle an important question: Does the Bible claim that the power of prophecy belongs only to God and is a proof of His authority?

To this there is a decisive answer in the prophecy of Isaiah. In the 41st chapter God challenges the idols and the idol worshippers of the day to prove that they possess divine powers. This is how He does it:

"Produce your cause, saith the Lord; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob, Let them (the idols) bring them, (the reasons) forth, and declare unto us what shall happen: declare ye the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; and shew us things to come ..." (vv.21-22,R.V.).

The basis of this challenge is clear: the pagan worshippers claim that their idols are gods. Very well; let them produce the proofs. And the proofs demanded by God Himself are that the idols shall announce future events, and also declare "the former things", that is, explain how creation took place in the beginning. The point is made crystal clear in the next verse:

"Declare the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods ..." (v.23).

Here God Himself is asserting that to be able to foretell the future would be a proof of Divine power. More than once in this part of Isaiah's prophecy, God declares that He is the only one who has this power, for only He is God; there is no other:

"Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God , and there is none like me ..." (46:9)

The God of Israel is here declaring that there is no other worthy object of worship but Himself; and goes on to assert the signs of His power in these terms:

". . . declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure" (46:10).

Come to think of it, whoever would dare to say, "My counsel shall stand . . ."except God? What man is there in the whole world who could say any such thing? To carry it out needs Someone who not only knows future events before they happen, but has the power to see that they take place as He has decreed. In other words, to utter prophecy which will inevitably come true, you need God. No other cause can explain it.

A Religion that makes sense

1. WHERE MODERN CHRISTIANITY FAILS

Starting right

Somebody once said that you will never find atheists on a life raft. This is another way of saying that when people are in desperate situations, they cannot afford to leave God out of their reckoning.

The stark fact is that we are all in a desperate situation, always. When people swagger and snap their fingers in God’s face, they are living in a dream world. They are not awake to the fact that life, at its best, is brief and precarious.

That is at its best!

And in these days of world wars and hydrogen bombs, life is more uncertain than ever. There is but a step between us and death.

Let us then begin by acknowledging that we need God. We are all on the same life raft; the sea is rough, and the sky is dark and threatening. We dare not pretend that we don’t believe in Him.

As believers in God, we ask the question: can we find a sensible and satisfying way of worshipping this God in whom we believe?

Would I be right in assuming that we believe in Jesus Christ too? Good! So it looks as if we ought to be enthusiastic members of the community that Christ founded.

What’s missing?

But someone may protest; it’s not so easy as that. Much as we respect and admire Jesus Christ, we don’t feel too happy about modern Christianity. It’s difficult to explain, but there seems to be something missing.

Yes, there is something inadequate about modern Christianity, Many Christians are agreed about this, and fervently wish it were otherwise. Although the sects of Christendom are many and varied, there is a basic sameness about most of them and there is something missing.

Out of touch ...

Where does modern Christianity fail? To begin with, it isn’t modern enough in the things that matter. Don’t misunderstand me! Many Christian communities are trying desperately hard trying too hard to be “with it”, but they are quite out of touch with the real issues of our day. The world is bristling with problems that modern Christians cannot answer.

Here are some of the problems that are too big for the Christians of today:

Will there be another world war?

Will civilization be destroyed?

What is God’s answer to the bomb?

Can we look forward, confidently, to a time when there will be “glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, goodwill toward men”?

Ought Christians to take part in war?

Can we expect God to intervene in human affairs?

Do world politics fit into a programme, or are they a matter of chance?

What is really happening in the Middle East?

If God is a God of love, why does He permit suffering?

There must be something wrong with a Christianity that cannot tackle such vital questions as these.

To pursue the matter just a little further: suppose we were to put the first question. Will there be another world war? To people qualified to speak for some of the larger and more respected Christian denominations. There would be no re-assuring uniformity about the answers, and they would not really tell us anything at all. The answers would probably be of two types. One type could be expressed something like this: “It is impossible to predict precisely what the future holds for us, but it is clear that unless men learn to live at peace with each other, war is inevitable.” A pious truism that helps nobody. The other type of answer would be a dogmatic assertion that, to a true Christian, a third world war would be unthinkable; but not a shred of evidence would be offered to support this pleasing sentiment.

... with Christ

Modern Christianity isn’t modern enough. It cannot grapple with the problems of our day. But, paradoxically, it isn’t ancient enough either. The sober truth is that the Christianity of most Christians today is not the Christianity of Christ. If it were, it would be as relevant now as it was when Christ was on earth. The Christianity of our day is out of touch with this modern world because it is not the Christianity of the first century.

Let us come back to an earlier comment. I said that many Christian communities are trying desperately hard to be “with it”. That’s just the trouble. They are too concerned about keeping up to date. They feel that they have lost their grip, and are afraid that their stock will go down still further if they appear old-fashioned. Accordingly, they have “trimmed” their Christianity, and in their attempts to bring it in line with modern thinking, have robbed it of the very things that have made it unique. See the irony: modern Christians cannot deal with modern problems because they are trying too hard to be modern!

If only the Christians of our day knew the authority and power of the religion that Christ founded, they would lose all their inhibitions and hold their heads high. They would also be able to give a good account of themselves. God knows the answers to the problems that perplex men today: and His servants are invited to learn the answers too.

I have spoken about modern Christians trimming their Christianity to try to bring it into line with modern thinking. Let me be more explicit. In their anxiety to keep in step, many Christians have denied, or played down, two distinctive and essential features of the Christianity of Christ:

1.  The authority of Scripture.

2.  The miraculous element.

There is a striking similarity between the attitude of modern Christians and that of the Sadducees of our Lord’s day. Of the Sadducees, the Lord Jesus said:

“You are wrong, because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God” (Matt 22:29)

Only a Christianity that accepts the absolute authority of Scripture, and believes that God performs miracles, will make sense.

2. A MESSAGE FROM THE CREATOR

God Gives the Instructions

Let us get down to basic things. We believe in God, and we want to worship Him acceptably. How do we set about it?

We can do one of two things. Either we can make our own decisions about how to worship God, and hope that they will be acceptable to Him; or we can follow God’s instructions.

Obviously, the second way is the right one. We are being foolish and arrogant if we try to work out our own system of worship, when God has issued His instructions. We are asking for trouble.

Did you say that you are not sure what God’s instructions are? So you find it hard to make up your mind how you should regard the Bible? Of course you admit that the Bible is an exceptional book; you are very impressed by some parts, especially those about the Lord Jesus Christ; indeed, you have no doubts in your mind that some parts of the Bible are divine; but you would say that other parts so clearly bear the marks of human imperfection that you have no confidence in them.

Drawing the Line – Somewhere

A bit of hard thinking will help here. You say that you believe that some parts of the Bible are divine, but that other parts are human and imperfect. So somewhere in the Bible you have to draw the line between what is human and what is divine. You must agree that the divine parts, because they are divine, are as valuable as anything could be, whereas the human parts are of little worth in comparison. So this business of drawing the line is just about the most important job you will ever be called upon to do. Have you treated it seriously, and really got down to it?

It's That Time Again! - A Story from the Past

Christmas TreeIt was the night before the great celebration.   Every child in the house was filled with anticipation and awe.   Their fresh, new clothes were hanging out and waiting for each child to wear the next morning.   None of them could bear the thought of going to bed and sleeping.   How could one sleep, knowing that gifts, desserts, and fun awaited each of them the next day?   They couldn't help wondering what words they would hear read from the sayings of their great King and Saviour.   Would the queen proclaim a huge party for the children tomorrow like she usually did?   Who would recommit their hearts to serve the Church?   Who would rededicate their lives to serve their wonderful Saviour, Lord and King?   Waiting for all of this was almost more than any child could take.   Nevertheless, each of them was firmly instructed to march straight off to their beds and go to sleep.

As the children walked reverently past the family's decorated tree, they bowed their knees.   It was so beautiful with its bright candles, glistening with liberally wrapped gold and silver tinsel.   They thought of how this tree represented the new life of their King and Saviour, who had died, but had miraculously come back to life.   As they bowed, each one also felt as if they might die waiting for the morning to come.   They knew that many of their cousins, aunts, uncles and friends would be with them to sing songs, eat tasty food, pastries and dainties.

After the morning Church Service in honour of their great Lord and King, they would all be free to do as they pleased.   They knew very well that each child would receive many gifts.   They wondered what would be waiting for them the next morning.   There was not one of them who hadn't hoped for something special that whole year long.

As the children went off to bed, the parents began to celebrate the evening with a party.   Although this was supposed to be a Holy event in honour of their Lord, their minds were elsewhere.   Somehow, the smell of wine, sweet breads, and other delicacies took complete control of their thoughts.   This was truly a time of fun, fellowship and relaxation.   Every family had a beautiful, decorated tree, sumptuous foods, wine, and the latest in fashion and gifts.   This was a time for gladness, fellowship, merriment including the sacred worship of their Lord who had died and come back again.

Many of the men had worked very hard during the previous month.   Now it was time to relax and enjoy the fruits of their hard labour.   Some of them had made huge profits the previous month by buying and selling numerous gift and church items necessary for this special holiday.   This was truly the best time of the year for them.   Some adults were already merry from attending numerous celebrations given all week long at their work place or business associate's home.

Sound Familiar?

You may be thinking that this is a story about christmas taken from the archives of early America or Europe.   However, this is not the case.   Instead, this scene was common during the Babylonian holiday 'saturnalia'1(Sat-tur-nail-yah).   Observing saturnalia was normal in the days of early Babylon, when Noah's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were adults.   This holy day was called saturnalia in commemoration of the rebirth of their god saturn, whose real name was Nimrod.   It always took place for a week, ending on December 25th2.   Nimrod was the great grandson of Noah (Gen. 10:8-9; 1Chron. 1:10).

Why does this pagan holiday have such a strong resemblance to what we call "christmas"?   Because in almost every detail, the sentiment, worship and celebration of christmas are exactly the same as ancient Babylon's saturnalia.   Why?

Before this can be understood, some background must be given.   The Bible says of Nimrod that "he began to be a mighty one in the earth.   He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord".   Secular history also abundantly records that, 'Nimrod was a mighty hunter'.   However, this is not referring to him hunting animals, but his own fellow man.   Simple research done at a library or encyclopedia3will show this to be true.   Semiramis was his wife and queen.   She is said to have been exceptionally beautiful as well as a powerful witch of satan.   Together, both she and her husband, Nimrod, succeeded in forming the new world's first and biggest pagan religious system.   Because after Noah, "the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech", most of the world's population centred around the middle east (Gen. 11:1).   This is how Nimrod's Babylonian religion was able to spread throughout the whole world after the Lord had "confound(ed) their language" (Gen. 11:7,9).   Nimrod was not alone in this.   He had been deeply influenced by his father Cush, who was the son of Ham.   Already Cush had adopted the name of the god, "Bel"4for himself (Isa. 46:1; Jer. 50:2, 51:44).

The Great PURPOSE of CHRISTThe Great PURPOSE of CHRIST

Jesus is described as being a man sent by God, the Son of God and Man who spoke the Father’s words. He was sent for a purpose and he declared he came to make a future life possible for all who believed in him. This purpose filled his thoughts throughout his ministry from the very start when John the Baptist pointed to him as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). We can see what this purpose is when we look at some of Jesus’ sayings.

Born to Die

Towards the end of his ministry we read that Jesus “steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem” (Luke 9:51).

He was fully aware that he would die there after he had been scorned and crucified. But this same determination marks his whole life and work, and shows that from the start he had that end in view. He recognized that he was born to that end. The expressions he used would make no sense from anyone else’s lips, but belong to him distinctively.

Jesus began to show to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day (Matthew 16:21).

“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Mark 10: 45).

This is the key to his work. He would lay down his life to save us from death.

A Bronze (fleshly) serpent raised on a pole by MosesIn a conversation which reveals how our needs are met in Jesus’ death on the cross, John chapter 3 looks back to an incident in the early days of Israel as they journeyed through the wilderness.

A plague of serpents was sent to punish their disobedience to God, and many of them died. God told Moses to put a bronze serpent on a pole, and that those people who were bitten should look at it. For those who performed this simple act of faith, healing and life would follow.

Jesus’ belief in the Old Testament as God’s word shines out in all he says.

This event is used as a parable of what he would do for all men and women, because they are suffering from sin and its effects – death. A parallel is drawn between the serpent lifted up on a pole, whereby those Israelites could be saved from death by serpent bite, and Jesus’ crucifixion through which mankind as a whole can find everlasting life.

“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.” (John 3:14–17).

These are some of the best known and best loved words in the Bible and are precious to Jesus’ followers as being the very heart of the gospel.

The Satan Myth Explained

Is Satan a fallen Angel?True or False Bible Teaching - YOU need to know this!

Mainstream Churches would have us believe that there is an superhuman evil force at work in this world and that this is due to a ‘fallen angel’, but is this true?

Where in the Bible does it teach us this?

Well there is only one passage in the Bible that those who believe such a thing turn you to and that is:

The Bible Passage

"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: . . . I will be like the most High." Isaiah 14:12-14

What some would have us believe:

This verse is used to prove that Satan is a fallen angel. A S.D.A. book of official doctrine puts it this way:

"As to Satan, or the devil, we hold the uniform teaching of the Word to be that he is definitely a personal being - the supreme adversary of God and man . . . He was, however, once an angel of light, the highest of the angels. He was named Lucifer, son of the morning (Isaiah 14:12-14). But he fell from his high estate (Ezekiel 28:13-18; Luke 10:18; John 8:44), and drew down with him a host of angels, first unto disaffection and then into open rebellion against God and His government . . . "1

True Bible Teaching is:

  1. This passage nowhere mentions the terms "devil", "satan" or "fallen angel". The argument in support of a fallen angel is, therefore, an inferred argument.
  2. Lucifer is identified in the narrative, but not with a rebel angel. It is explicitly stated: "Take up this proverb 2 against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased!" (vs. 4). (The preceding chapter is a prophecy against Babylon itself, but now the prophecy is directed against the king of Babylon).
  3. Some questions require answering:
    1. Is Satan really accompanied by the noise of viols (sound of harps, R.S.V.)? (vs.11).
    2. Is Satan to be covered by worms in the grave (vs. 11) or is he not rather to be cast into the lake of fire? (Revelation 20:10).
    3. Why is Satan desirous of a place "in the sides of the north"? (vs. 13).
    4. If Satan is a rebel angel, why is he called "the man"? (vs. 16).
    5. Why did Satan say, "I will ascend into heaven" if in fact he had access to heaven until 1914? (As J.W.'s assert.)
    6. What land has Satan possessed, the destruction of which merits him dishonourable burial? (vs. 20).
    7. Where are Satan's people buried? (vs. 20) Is not the lake of fire said to be the common receptacle of Satan and his cohorts?
    8. When did Satan have charge over a prison, refusing to let the people go home? (vs. 17 R.S.V.).
  4. Lucifer means "Day Star" (R.S.V.) and the verse employs the figure of the brilliant planet Venus which appears low in the sky just before dawn and climbs higher and higher in the sky until unseen in the daylight.3 The same bright planet is also an "evening star" seen at sunset and going lower and lower until lost beneath the horizon. Hence the figure of Lucifer, king of Babylon, rising in power to his zenith and saying in his heart "I will ascendKing Nebuchadnezzar exalting himself for all he had done into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God" (which parallels the arrogance of another king of Babylon - Nebuchadnezzar - who said: "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?" (Daniel 4:30). The "evening star" seen at sunset going lower and lower until lost beneath the horizon portrays the demise of Lucifer - "brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit." (vs. 15).
  5. "Ascending to heaven" is a Biblical idiom for increase in pride or exaltation, and "falling from heaven", an idiom for complete humiliation. See Jeremiah 51:53 (refers to Babylon); Lamentation 2:1; Matthew 11:23 (refers to Capernaum).

  2. The "proverb" was a "taunting speech" (mg.) in which trees spoke (vs. 8), and the dead in hell were made to speak when the king died with his pomp and glory. (vs. 9-10).
  3. See James Hastings (ed.), Dictionary of the Bible, (New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1963), p. 936. The Amplified Old Testament, (Michigan: Zondervan Publishing House, 1962), comments in a footnote to Isaiah 14 as follows: ". . . the application of the name Lucifer to Satan, in spite of the long and confident teaching to that effect, is completely erroneous. . . . Nowhere in the Bible is Satan called Lucifer. The misapplication of the name has existed since the third century A.D., and is based on the false supposition that Luke 10:18 is an explanation of Isaiah 14:12 . . . It is the satanic king himself who is being addressed." p. 503. The J.W.'s, for example, have recognized the force of these arguments and now no longer in their official publications refer to Satan as "Lucifer", nor is Isaiah 14 cited in support of their belief that Satan is a fallen angel.

THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD

The Holy Spirit

Power or Person?
Many men and women who have read the Bible and listened to Christian teachers have been puzzled about the Holy Spirit. Who or what is the Holy Spirit? Is the Holy Spirit a God, or a part of God? What is the truth?

In order to answer these questions, we will turn to the Bible itself as the only authority. Please turn to the Bible passages mentioned in this booklet to confirm the truth about the Holy Spirit for yourself.

Not a Mystery
When questioned about the Holy Spirit, many religious teachers today reply that it is a mystery, and that we should not seek to understand in detail what it means. They will often say that believers must accept their explanations, 'in faith', without requiring a logical explanation.

This is just an excuse. Comments like this overlook the passages in the Bible which show that the mystery of God has already been revealed through the work of Jesus Christ:

"Having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure" (Ephesians 1 :9)

"The mystery. ..now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations" (Romans 16:25-26)

"The mystery which... has now been revealed to his saints." (Colossians 1 :26)

These are not, the only Bible passages which show that the 'mysteries' of religion have now been revealed (see also Romans 11 :25; Ephesians 3:3; 6: 19; Colossians 4:3; 1 Corinthians 15:51). If the Bible repeatedly says that now there is no 'mystery' in the fundamental teachings of the gospel, then we can be confident that the truth about the Holy Spirit also can be found in the Bible, if we read through it and look for ourselves.

Never did any disciple of Jesus say, "this is a mystery, so do not try to understand it". Instead they took pains to show their hearers logical explanations of the things from the Bible.

The Spirit of God
Many times throughout the Bible, the word 'spirit' is referred to as "the spirit of God". The very beginning of the Bible says that "the spirit of God was moving over the waters" (Genesis 1:2) as God was about to create everything on earth.

The spirit spoken about in the Bible is of God. It is God's spirit, something that belongs to him, and comes from him. That is why the phrase "the spirit of the Lord" appears so many times in the Bible. (For example Isaiah 11:2, 40:7, 61:1; Micah 3:8).

The spirit of God summarises many things about him. The Hebrew word (ruakh) translated "spirit" in the Old Testament of the Bible in the first sense means "breath" or "power". God's spirit is therefore His "breathing", the very essence of God, reflecting His mind.

God's actions are reflected in how He thinks, much like with us as human beings. In the Bible man's spirit shows how he is. We think of something, and then do it. For example, our 'spirit', or mind, responds to the hunger in our stomach, and we will seek out some food. This explains why the Hebrew word for spirit can mean all of these English words: breath, mind, and power. Our spirit - the essential us - refers to our thoughts, and therefore also to our actions which reflect the thoughts or disposition of our mind.

On a far more glorious scale, God's spirit is the same; it is the power by which He displays His essential being, His character and purpose. God thinks and therefore does things: "Surely as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, and as I have purposed, so it shall stand" (Isaiah 14:24).

The Limitless Power of God
God is all powerful. He is the creator of the world. In contrast to other so-called gods worshipped throughout the ages, the God of the Bible is the only true God.

"The Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting king. He has made the earth by his power, He has established the world by His wisdom." (Jeremiah 10:10-12)

God used His power from the very beginning, when He created the world and everything in it. God continues to be in control of the world by this same power which was used to create people and animals.

"I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are on. the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it to whom it seemed proper unto me." (Jeremiah 27:5)

Because God by His very nature is powerful, His spirit is powerful. We as human beings have some power, but ours of course is limited. We have the power to carry out only some of the actions that we desire. God has an ability that we do not. He can give His power to human beings.

"He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength" (Isaiah 40:29).

Sometimes, this gift of power is called the spirit.

There Is Only One Bible Hope!

One HopeIntroduction

Since the time man discovered that the earth was round and not flat like many experts had believed it was, men have been reluctant to just accept traditional beliefs that are not supported by some sort of proof.

As a result many would be quick to suggest that man as a result has come a long way in his knowledge and understanding of this world in which we live.

But this is far from being true of mans knowledge of the One Hope as revealed in the Bible.

If we were to take an overview of the many religious groups in the world today and their claims to know and teach the One Bible Hope, one would have to say that there is more confusion about true Bible teaching today than there ever has been.

In fact so much is this the case that the majority of religions today don’t even make a big fuss about what you believe in terms of whether its right or wrong. Membership is no longer based on common beliefs, despite the Bible clearly stating that all true believers are to be of “one mind”.

Ephesians 4:4-5

“There is one body and one spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all…”

Over the centuries man has woven into religion many non-Biblical teachings.

For this reason many people today find Bible teaching as presented by the various religious groups as too incredible to believe, preferring to think of them as ancient beliefs and superstitions that offered a world with little scientific proof an explanation to life that has now outlived its usefulness or credibility.

By comparison, in ancient times believers in the Bible were clear and convinced of the things they believed to be the One Hope of the Bible to the point that they were prepared to die for it.

The twelve men Christ chose as his closest followers, when he was alive on this earth, all went to their deaths being convicted of the things they witnessed and were taught by him.

What’s more, these men were put to death in gruel ways like stoning, crucifixion, being cast into boiling hot cauldrons of oil and being thrown to the lions before spectators, many were tortured before this, which all goes to make their conviction all the more remarkable.

Later during the reformation in the 16th century many thousands of believers across Europe were burnt at the stake for their conviction in the One Hope of the Bible.

The world we live in today is a vastly different place in both beliefs and conviction.

Whilst we fully support the idea that we should challenge the validity of any teaching claiming to bring future benefit to those who accept it, neither should we disregard or mock anything we haven’t checked out for ourselves.

And it would seem reasonable to suggest that the teaching claiming the greatest benefit for its adherents are the ones most worthy of our time to check out.

The current confusion of bible teaching was something that the apostles of Christ prophesied as coming on the religious world even in their own day, but that it would increase there from unto the later days ie. the days before Christ's Return to the Earth.

Current confusion- One bible many religions, does it really matter what we believe?

2Timothy 4:3-4

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

Acts 17:21

“Now all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.”

2Timothy 3:7

“...ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

So the Bible is very clear that not all people who claim to believe in the Bible would believe in the Truth or the true message of the Bible.  As sad as this is, sincerity ie. To be sincere with what you believe, is not enough to save you.  Only the Truth can save you.

And there are many false beliefs in the world so it is up to each one of us to find the Truth, this is a test by God of our Faith and Works to truly seek his Truth out.

This is what Paul said about this:

Will the Earth ever be Destroyed?

As the prophet Daniel foretold, there is a time of trouble coming on earth that will bring it to the brink of destruction.

At that time Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, every one who is found written in the book. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt (Daniel 12:1–2).

Survival or Destruction?

Will the earth survive or will it, and every living thing upon it, be destroyed? Some people think that the earth’s days are numbered and fear for its future survival, but they need have no such concerns.

Although there is a time of judgement coming on this earth, the Bible is quite definite that the earth itself will not be destroyed; that it will survive. And as this is a promise that God has made in His Word, the Bible, we can be absolutely sure about it. Here are some of those promises:

·       One generation passes away, and  another generation comes; but the earth abides World Globe

·       For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens, who is God, who formed the earth and made it, who has established it, who did not create it in vain, who   formed it to be inhabited: “I am the Lord, and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:18);

·       The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men (Psalm 115:16);

·       Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5).

Notice the last passage in particular, for it is a promise made by the Lord Jesus to all faithful believers. This is the promise of an everlasting inheritance here on earth, not a promise of life in heaven.

Saved How?

It is God’s intention to stop the present decline which now affects most aspects of human existence, before it goes too far. He will send His Son to save His people from destruction and to set up His kingdom on this earth.

The establishment of that Kingdom will, in time, restore this earth to the condition it was at the time of creation. This is what the apostle Peter said on the day of Pentecost to those Jews who were willing to listen:

Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world  began (Acts 3:19–21).

Glorious Future

The physical earth will survive the time of trouble that is coming on this world and will yet have a glorious future. There are many descriptions of this time which is spoken about by God’s prophets and they are written to give us great hope and encouragement. For example, God says through His

prophet Isaiah:

Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of

the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:2–3).

God’s Gracious Purpose

Dome of the Rock MosqueSee this article for the beautiful future God has Planned for the Earth.

A new temple is to be built in Jerusalem when the “restoration of all things” takes place

For now, we can satisfy ourselves with the knowledge that, even though the earth will yet experience a "time of trouble such as never has been known before", God has a plan for this earth and He will surely bring it to pass. For it is God’s ultimate and declared purpose to fill this earth with His glory.

But truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord… (Numbers 14:21);

They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea (Isaiah 11:9);

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14).

The Truth of Easter and where it came from?

EasterTo begin, Easter is a Chaldee word wrongly applied to the Passover or pascha {pas'-khah}. Pascha, which means to skip, or pass over, applies to the Pascal sacrifice the Israelites were accustomed to slay and eat on the fourteenth day of the month of Nisan, (the first month of their year), in memory of the day on which their forefathers, preparing to depart from Egypt, were bidden by God to slay and eat a lamb, and to sprinkle their door posts with its blood, that the destroying angel, seeing the blood, may pass over their dwellings.

'For God said, "I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt" (Exodus 12:12-13).

That Passover lamb was a type of Christ crucified. Those who believe the Gospel message of salvation and are baptised into Christ are covered by the blood of Christ, as in type the Israelites were under the blood of the lamb.  As the lamb died in place of Israel's firstborn, who were under its blood in Egypt, Christ died for those who choose to follow him and are baptised into his name and become a community of believers who follow Christ’s teaching.

Believers know that the name 'Easter,' used in our translation of Acts 12:4, refers not to any Christian festival, and not to the Jewish Passover. This is one of those places in our Bible where the translators show an undue bias. The best explanation is that this refers to the pagan festival of Astarte, also known as 'Ishtar' and pronounced 'Easter' by us. This festival was held in late April around the time of the Passover. In its original form, it was a celebration of the earth regenerating itself after the winter season in the northern hemisphere. The festival involved the celebration of fertility and reproduction. The common symbols of Easter were the rabbit and (for obvious reasons) the egg. Pagan symbols which have crept into church usage.

Astarte or Ishtar was the main female deity of pagan religion, and is known in the Bible as the 'Queen of Heaven'. In Jeremiah 7:16-18, God told His prophet this;

“16Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee. 17 Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? 18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.”

Is there a supernatural ‘‘Satan’’?suggested image of a so called satan

We take a look at some of the passages that same would take us to, that on the surface seem to speak of a supernatural satan, but do they?   The Bible does use the word ‘satan’ and ‘the devil’ but let us look at these passages and see what or who they refer to?’

Firstly the word ‘satan’ is a Hebrew word transliterated into our English Bible, this means that the translators saw this word in the Hebrew and chose to leave it in the Hebrew rather than translating it into it’s English equivalent meaning of ‘adversary’ or ‘opposer’.  Straight away upon discovering this would should have alarm bells ringing in our heads as to why they would do this?  But on a closer look we find it is actually worse than this as we discover that the translators have only chosen to transliterate this word into our English Bible when it seemed to them that it might refer to something that they already believed in ie. A supernatural evil being.  We find that in most places where it is clearly not talking about such a thing they have translated it correctly to the English ‘adversary’.

Let us now look at some of the passages where the translators have chosen to transliterate this Hebrew word into our English Bible.  We need to start with the Old Testament because ‘satan’ (though never ‘the devil’) is mentioned there in a way that on first reading might seem to support such a belief in a supernatural evil.

In the Old Testament there are two clear examples where someone called ‘Satan’ appears, but when you think about the background to the story it is clear that ‘Satan’ is a character in a kind of drama set in a tribunal, or a court of law. In these ‘dramas’, ‘Satan’ represents the opposition to God’s ways that was coming from men and women at the time. Real situations are described in a dramatic way, as in a play.

Satan in the Book of Job

Job was the most godly person of his time. He was also very rich and powerful. It was natural for envious minds to suggest that Job only served God because God rewarded him with the good things of this life.

THE OFFER OF LIFE OR DEATH

The Offer of Life or Death“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. For the Lord is your life…  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn awaytheir ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”    2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”   John 4:23-24

Use this True Bible Teaching Resource to help understanding some of the more difficult passages that many take in isolation to the rest of the Bible and claim that they teach things that the Bible does not teach.

The Bible is a large book, but it teaches us the truth from beginning to end, therefore anything towards the end of the Bible eg. The New Testament must agree with what is taught in the Old Testament, also remember that the divisions of the Bible into Old and New Testaments is a manmade one, the whole Bible is God's WORD to us and must be undersood consistently as such.
