WHY IS BIBLE TRUTH SO IMPORTANT?

Bible Truth

THE IMPORTANCE OF BIBLE TRUTH

Is Bible Truth important to your Faith and Salvation ie. will you be saved despite what you believe the bible teaches or does it matter what you believe?

Well the word “truth” appears 237 times in the bible, that alone says it must be important!

Therefore it must be important to understand what “truth” is.

A quick scan of the passages using this word “truth” leave us in no doubt that it is not only important, but vital to our salvation.

John 17:3

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 John 5:20

20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

1 Timothy 2:3-4

3For thisis good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Clearly then knowing what is Bible Truth is important and vital, in addition to this we are also warned that some would depart from the “truth”…

1 Timothy 4:1

1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1 John 4:6

6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

From these passages it is very clear that we need to know the “truth” about God and His Son as it is taught to us in the Bible.  This means we must learn what this is from the Bible itself.

Don't let your HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL rest with someone else eg. your pastor or minister, YOU owe it to yourself and your family to be fully convinced of what it is you believe to be sure it HOLDS something REAL for you.

We have all been warned by God that there would be many false teachers and Jesus himself has told us that "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."  See Matthew 7:14

Sadly when Christ returns to this earth, many will only then realise that they have believed in lies Jeremiah 16:19

"19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit."

Don't let this be you or your family!

Truth Seeker - True Bible Teaching

The Bible is our only true source for the Truth!

If we claim to follow Christ we should trust in the Scriptures as confidently as Jesus and his Apostles did:

Jesus said that: The Scripture cannot be broken.  (John 10:35)

Paul said that: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16)

Peter said that: For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21)

The things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven (1 Peter 1:12)

True faith must be founded on a fully inspired Bible.

The OFFER of LIFE or DEATH

God's Offer of LIFE or DEATH

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.   See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him… This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life…"  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

From this passage we see how important it is to each one of us that we seek after God and His Word the Bible to us.

Without this we have no hope of LIFE, but only a future of DEATH.

This Word of God was originally given to the Nation of Israel and later it spread via the Apostles of Christ to the World, that even we today might have this same HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL.

It is UP to YOU then to seek out God’s Word, to KNOW what is the TRUTH of God’s Word so that you and your family might KNOW the way of LIFE ETERNAL and the great HOPE of living in God’s Kingdom on EARTH.

Do not let your HOPE rest upon others and most importantly on what others teach, search it out for yourself because we have been warned that the churches would be astray from God’s word in the last days.

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”   2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Godis a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

The Bible Is Our ONLY Guide

The Holy BibleThe Bible provides us with plain Scriptural Teaching for the True Followers of Christ

The statements on this guide represent what we believe is true Bible teaching. The statements are deliberately challenging, asking every reader to compare his own opinions with the plain teaching of Scripture, examining carefully the Bible passages offered as proof. If, as a result, a change of mind and heart is called for, there will be no doubt that the teaching of the Lord, and the book he trusted, must be followed and not what the churches teach.

All Scripture quotations are taken from the New King James (also known as the Revised Authorized) Version of the Bible.

God's Purpose with the EARTH

God's very Purpose with the Earth is stated in one verse by an oath "as truly as I live (says God) all the earth will be filled with the Glory of the LORD"  Numbers 14:21

God's word sets out for us just how He will accomplish this.

Just How God wanted to achieve this in the beginning is made clear: “And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:28 ASV)

“For thus saith The LORD that created the heavens, the God that formed the earth and made it, that established it and created it not a waste, that formed it to be inhabited: I am The LORD; and there is none else.” (Isaiah 45:18 ASV)

“For evil–doers shall be cut off; But those that wait for The LORD, they shall inherit the land. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and he shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” (Psalm 37:9-11 ASV)

“The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell therein forever.” (Psalm 37:29 ASV)

“For the upright shall dwell in the land, And the perfect shall remain in it. But the wicked shall be cut off from the land, And the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.” (Proverbs 2:21-22 ASV)

“After this manner therefore pray ye. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.” (Matthew 6:9-10 ASV)

So with all these verses in mind (there are many more we could add) it is clear that God's Purpose has to do with Firstly His Glory and Secondly Righteous People.

In Exodus 33:18 Moses asks God "I beseech thee, show me your glory", and in reponse God (actually it was the angel representing God) revealed to Moses a Glorious Character which is God's Character.  In Exodus 34:6  "And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty..."

And so from this and the rest of the Bible we learn that God's very Purpose is to Cover this Earth with a People who will show in their own lives His Glorious Character.  What a wonderful purpose this is and how wonderful for us to be invited to be a part of this.

Literal earth stays in existence.

“Who laid the foundations of the earth, That it should not be moved for ever.” (Psalm 104:5 ASV)

“Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: Thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.” (Psalm 119:90 ASV)

“One generation goeth, and another generation cometh; but the earth abideth for ever.” (Ecclesiastes 1:4 ASV)

Men can not change Gods intention.

“And the nations were wroth, and thy wrath came, and the time of the dead to be judged, and [the time] to give their reward to thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and to them that fear thy name, the small and the great; and to destroy them that destroy the earth.” (Revelation 11:18 ASV)

“so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11 ASV)

“For The LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall annul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?” (Isaiah 14:27 ASV)

Matters of Life and Death

Life1For those of us who have and love our pets, this story my be a familiar one to us.

One Saturday morning I received an urgent call from a friend of mine, who told me her dog was very ill.

As she didn’t have a car of her own, she asked me to help her take her dog to the vet.

The dog was lying on the floor on an old sheet and was unable to move his legs because they had stopped working – this was serious. With the help of another neighbour, we managed to carry him to the car and laid him down in the back. Then, with the sick dog settled in the back, my friend and I drove to the vets. When we arrived, the vet and a veterinary nurse lifted him out of the car and took him into the surgery.

The vet told us he didn’t know what was wrong, but the dog was obviously very sick. It would cost a lot of money to investigate, which my friend could not afford, and the vet felt there was little likelihood of a recovery. The only other option was to ‘put the dog to sleep’.

After a brief discussion, my friend decided on the second option, although it was a painfully sad one.

She was upset, and I was too because I’d known the dog since he was a puppy. The vet gave him the lethal injection; he went from a creature that was obviously alive to a lifeless corpse.

He lay there with his eyes open, a solid unyielding body that had once been a much–loved pet; but now the life had gone from him, he was transformed into a lifeless, dog–shaped lump.

Life – and Death

Sad as it was, the experience set me thinking about death and the miracle of life. God the Creator gave life in the beginning – life is very precious; He made life upon earth for a reason.

Genesis chapter 1 tells us that God spoke and created plants and trees, fish and birds and then the land creatures.

Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so (Genesis 1:24).

Finally, God created Adam and Eve who were to be the pinnacle of His creation.

They were commanded:

Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die (Genesis 2:16–17).

Church Teaching is CORRUPTED!

Nearly all of the writers of the New Testament predicted that changes would occur in key beliefs after their deaths. That Christianity Teaching is Corruptedpeople would “fall away” and that “apostasy” would enter the body of believers. Consider the following verses:

“For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock… For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.” Acts 20:27-30

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come (the return of Christ), except there come a falling away first…” 2 Thessalonians 2:3

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy…” 1 Timothy 4:1-2

“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2 Timothy 4:2-4

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.” 2 Peter 2:1-3

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Jude v3

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1

A Warning

We can see from the verses above that the established church would be deceived by false ideas. The warning is to take heed to what the Bible teaches. We must get back to the word of God. We cannot afford to rely on what a Vicar, Priest, Bishop or Pastor dictates to us.

We have to search out the scriptures to ensure that we hold the truth as preached by the original believers in Jesus Christ. Such searching can be done by any individual who is seeking for truth. It takes an open and independent mind, one which comes to the Bible to find that truth. The verses above show the importance of finding the true original doctrines as taught in the scriptures and holding fast to them. It clearly does matter what we believe and to ensure we have not been deceived by an apostate system we have to get back to what the Bible teaches.

The Historical Fulfilment

From the verses we have looked at, you can clearly see that the established body of Christians would be infiltrated and deceived by false ideas. History shows that the early church changed its stance on core doctrines quite early on. This changed and corrupted church soon became political under the name of the Catholic church. Many split offs from this “Mother” church have occurred but most of these “daughters” adopted the already changed and corrupted doctrines of their Mother.

SPIRITUALISM

SpiritualismTwo hundred years ago education was almost totally in the hands of the established church. Its message was authoritative and rarely, if ever, challenged. On questions about life and death, the church taught that a man or woman's innermost self survives bodily death, and continues to exist in a spirit world either of blissful reward or eternal punishment.

As the nineteenth century progressed and the age of rationalism opened up, these long cherished beliefs were subjected to intellectual enquiry and scientific testing. Only those things that attracted concrete proof passed these tests. The belief that death is simply the gateway to a new but different conscious experience was a theory that could not be reproduced in the laboratory. Where was the evidence that man's essential being survived death? It only existed by virtue of the authority claimed by the church.

This teaching was not supported by the Bible, as we shall see later in this article. But through all the preceding centuries, the scriptures were not available to the greater part of the population. And, from 1859 when Charles Darwin wrote his book The Origin of Species challenging the Bible account of Creation, the Bible itself was rejected by many people who no longer accepted it as the wholly inspired Word of God.

Modern Spiritualism
Modern Spiritualism emerged against this background of rational enquiry following some strange happenings in Hydesville, a small town in New York state in America. A family named Fox moved into a house in the town where unexplained noises were reported by previous tenants. When this happened during the Fox's tenancy, the youngest daughter challenged whoever or whatever was making the tapping to repeat the number of times she clicked her fingers. Subsequently, by using a series of codes created by the girl and her elder sisters, answering raps provided the information that the house was inhabited by the spirit of a man who had been murdered there.

As the girls' alleged communication with the spirit world first occurred on March 31, 1848, this date is taken as the birth of Modern Spiritualism. When news of the events in Hydesville began to circulate, the girls' claims were subjected to various tests, and eminent scientists quickly took sides; some claimed that a supernatural event had occurred, and others suggested it was all an elaborate deception. But so much attention was focused on the claims, that many gatherings were held elsewhere in America and then in Europe in an attempt to communicate with the spirits of the dead.

Acceptance of Spiritualism
A number of famous mediums were quickly accepted into high society. The two Fox girls were very profitably managed by their elder sister, and other mediums too benefited personally from the exercise of their abilities. Seances, as the spiritualist gatherings were called, grew more and more elaborate. One very well known medium, Daniel Douglas Home, presided over gatherings where tables moved apparently by themselves, where he was able without injury to hold red hot coals in his hand, and even to levitate off the ground and float in and out of windows. He was feted at many of the European royal courts.

A great stimulus to the general acceptance of modern spiritualism was provided by Queen Victoria's interest – an interest generated by the loss of her husband Prince Albert. Shortly afterwards, with the enormous loss of life in the great wars of the twentieth century, men and women bereaved of their loved ones tried to get in touch with those who died in order to obtain messages of comfort and advice, just as they did when their relative or friend was alive. This is perfectly understandable. Human relationships form an important part of each person's life, and when death intervenes, those who are left alone naturally feel the need to continue the communication they previously enjoyed, if at all possible.

Spiritualism offers to answer that need, for it claims that death is not the complete end of consciousness. At the moment of what we call death, spiritualists believe that a person's essential being merely transfers from the material realm to the realm of the spirit. There is, so they claim, no loss of consciousness, just the transition to a higher and better plane of existence. Added to this is the further claim that communication can occur between the material world and the spiritual world, but normally this needs to be facilitated by an intermediary - or medium - who can only assist if the conditions are favourable.

Concepts of Spiritualism
Three basic and interconnected concepts thus underlie Spiritualist beliefs:

  1. That there is personal and conscious survival of bodily death;
  2. Death is the transition from one realm of awareness and life to another that is an advance on our present existence; and
  3. When conditions allow it, communication between this world and the world of spirits is possible with the help of intermediaries.

These concepts were expressed most succinctly during 1948, the centenary year of Modern Spiritualism, when Spiritualists adopted the following brief description of their beliefs:

"The Proof of Survival"

From this it is apparent that great emphasis is placed on the communications that occur through the assistance of mediums. Without these, there would be no proof of survival, and the ability to survive death and unconsciousness would be just an unproven theory. Much rests, therefore, on the nature of the communications that take place, and whether they provide sound, reliable and incontrovertible evidence.

Where Did Halloween Come From?

HalloweenDo you know that Halloween was introduced into the professing Christian world centuries after the death of the Apostles, yet it was celebrated by the pagans centuries before the New Testament Church was founded!

How did Halloween come to America? Here is the intriguing answer from history: “The American celebration rests upon Scottish and Irish folk customs WHICH CAN BE TRACED IN DIRECT LINE FROM PRE-CHRISTIAN TIMES” — from paganism! “Although Halloween has become a night of rollicking fun, superstitious spells, and eerie games which people take only half seriously, its beginnings were quite otherwise. The earliest Halloween celebrations were held” — not by the inspired early Church, but — “by the Druids in honor of Samhain, Lord of the Dead, whose festival fell on November 1.” (From Halloween Through Twenty Centuries, by Ralph Linton, p. 4.)

Far from being Christian, this festival is an old pagan holiday, masquerading as though it was one of the customs of the Church. And yet professing Christians allow their children to get into the spirit of this pagan custom!

The Encyclopedia Americana states about Halloween that it “is clearly a relic of pagan times.”

Now notice what the authoritative Encyclopaedia Britannica says about Halloween: “It long antedates Christianity. The two chief characteristics of ancient Halloween were the lighting of bonfires and the belief that this is the one night in the year during which ghosts and witches are most likely to wander about. History shows that the main celebrations of Halloween were purely Druidical” — from the pagan Druids of Northwest Europe — “and this is further proved by the fact that in parts of Ireland October 31 is still known as OIDHCH SHAMHNA, ‘Vigil of Saman.’ “ Saman or Samhain was the pagan lord of the dead among the Druids.

So Halloween was celebrated among the pagans long before Jesus was born in Bethlehem. This pagan holiday, however, was not celebrated alone among the Druids. It was also a Roman festival! The Britannica continues: “On the Druidic ceremonies were grafted some of the characteristics of the Roman festival in honour of Pomona held about November 1, in which nuts and apples, representing the winter store of fruits, played an important part.”

Notice the widespread pagan custom to celebrate this season of the year.

Why Halloween Was Celebrated

Now comes the shocking truth from history as to why this holiday was celebrated! Here are the plain facts as written in THE BOOK OF HALLOWEEN, on page 10, by Ruth Kelley: The pagan Druid priests “taught the immortality of the soul, that it passed from one body to another at death . . . .  They believed that on the last night of the old year (October 31) the lord of death gathered together the souls of all those who had died in the passing year and had been condemned to live in the bodies of animals, to decree what forms they should inhabit for the next twelve months. He could be coaxed to give lighter sentence by gifts and prayers.”

“On the New Year, their sins being expiated, they were released to go to the Druid Heaven.” (From Halloween Through Twenty Centuries, p. 5).

Halloween was celebrated to preserve in the minds of the people the false doctrine of the immortality of the soul — that the dead are not really dead. Almost all heathen nations had days in honor of the dead — days originally instituted to commemorate the death of Nimrod (Genesis 10:8-10) whom Semiramis, his wife, said was still alive.

Now let us understand the meaning of the word “Halloween.” It is the eve of Allhallows or Hallowmas or All Saints’ Day — and as such it is one of the most solemn festivals of the [Catholic] church.” (From page 3 of Linton’s Halloween Through Twenty Centuries.)

Halloween is the evening of Allhallows or All Saints’ Day, which falls on November 1. Since in ancient times, the days were customarily reckoned as beginning at sunset, Halloween was merely the evening celebration in anticipation of the great day of November 1, dedicated to the lord of the dead!

Why the Bible is Reliable

Many scoff at the Word of God. The Bible says that even in the “LAST DAYS” there would be scoffers asserting, “Where is the promise of his coming, for since the fathers fell asleep all things continue as they were from the beginning of the Creation.”  (2 Peter 3:4).  Although all life is miraculous, and day and night are a wondrous phenomena: yet man thinks it impossible that the Great Creator could have handed him a divine Handbook explaining His purpose with the earth and man upon it.  In other words, divine power is limited to man’s own punt understanding.

But have you ever thought over the claims of the Bible to be the Word of God?  Just for a few moments, consider this brief evidence:

First, its Antiquity: The excavator’s spade is a great testimony to the truth of the Bible. The gaunt ruins of Babylon may be seen today – deserted, for the Arab will not pitch his tent there. (see Isaiah 13:19-22).  In the sea around Tyre can be seen remnants of ancient pillars of Tyre, the old maritime city.  Fishermen spread their nets upon them just as Ezekiel said they would do (Ezekiel 26:1-14).  Some years ago, the record of Joshua of the city of Jericho was ridiculed. But in 1934 Professor Garstang uncovered the city and found evidence of it having been burnt (ch. 6).  Likewise Edom, Moab, Ammon and Palestine itself, abound with evidence that the Bible record is true.

How Confident is your Faith?

bus stop smlWe all have faith. Not everybody recognises this, but it’s true. We can’t exist without faith.

When you go out in the morning, you have faith that the bus will turn up, or the car will start. You have faith that the shops will be open. If you had no faith, you wouldn’t bother getting out of bed.

Of course, your faith is based on facts – it’s not blind faith. Suppose you want to go into town. You could sit down by the side of a random road and wait for the right bus to come along – that would be blind faith.

You’d probably be waiting for a long time. Or you could look at the timetable to check where and when the bus goes, then wait at the bus stop at the right time – that’s faith based on facts. And that way you’d be much more likely to get to town.

The point is, as you stand and wait at the bus stop you don’t know for certain that the bus will turn up, but you have faith that it will, based on your knowledge of the facts.

The Christian life is also a life of faith. This is not blind faith, but confident faith based on knowledge and experience.

Christian Faith

A friend once said to me, “I wish I had your faith!”

This was a very sad thing to say – it implied that my faith was somehow out of reach for him. That’s not true. I think what he really meant was, “I’d like to have your faith but I’m not prepared to give it a go.”

Faith in God is not difficult to achieve. The apostle Paul puts it succinctly:

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

That’s all there is to it! Read the Bible with an open mind and a teachable attitude. God’s word will then do its job and it will instil faith. It may not happen overnight, but it will happen.

Here are three ways in which it can do this:

1 – Fulfilled Prophecy

“You are My witnesses”, says the LORD, “and My servant whom I have chosen. That you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me” (Isaiah 43:10).

In this chapter God is talking to the people of Israel. He is saying, if you want evidence of My existence just look at yourselves!

The Great Apostasy and The Number of The Beast 666

The Great Apostasy and the Number of the Beast 666

“And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? 5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations…"Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."(Revelation 13:4-18)

Apostasy

In Revelation 13 we read about the BEAST with the number of 666. This is only one of a number of references in the Bible to a great APOSTASY (abandoning of the faith) that would develop. This "falling away" from the true faith actually started in the first century and it has continued into our own day. Many prophecies are written to warn us that this corruption of Bible truth would be very prominent in the last days, just before its final destruction at the return of Christ.

Some references to Consider

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

"And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." (Matthew 24:11-12)

"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God." (2 Thess. 2:3-4)

"Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8)

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come....Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away."( 2 Timothy 3: 1-5)

What does it Mean to Us?

These prophecies of APOSTASY are of obvious concern to all of us. We owe it to ourselves to identify the errors and source of false religion so that we can escape from the judgments that are coming. (See 2 Thess 2:8-12)

"They shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

Paul's warning to Timothy

The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy to warn him of the dangers of the coming APOSTASY. "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
(2 Timothy 4: 1- 4)

Dishonest Gain

Why would people prefer fables to Bible truth? Simply because the promises associated with false religion are more appealing to the flesh. By telling their followers what they want to hear, the false prophets maintain their livelihood. Religion can be a lucrative profitable business. Beware the message of those who are more concerned with donations than truth.

The Fables

How do we identify the fables? First of all, we must follow the example of the disciples at Berea, who searched the scriptures daily to see if what the preachers were telling them was true. (See Acts 17:10-11)

The other thing that we need to be watching out for is a message that is just "too good to be true." Consider the church funeral for a deceased of questionable character who was now being commended to paradise with words of praise.

Watch out for those promises that no matter how much of a sinner we are, God loves us just the way we are, and He will reward us anyway. Sermons of this sort are far removed from the truth as revealed in the Bible.

The True Identity of the DevilWho or What is the Devil

The Bibles Teaching

The true Bible teaching of the devil and satan is very far removed from the popular idea that the devil is an immortal monster with a tail and a pitchfork, tempting man to rebel against God. We hope to show that the Bible teaches that the devil is actually sin which manifests itself in individuals and organisations.

The idea of a “fallen angel” is a idea which has is routes in paganism and was adopted in to Christian theology. The ancient Greeks and Roman pagan religions for example proclaimed the idea of good and evil Gods who would strive together over the souls of men.

These ideas find no real support in the Bible. A lot of assumption and “reading into” the wording has to be done to attempt to find support for this idea and in doing so many solid scriptural principles are broken.

Why is this subject important?

The mission of Jesus Christ was to save us from “the devil”:

“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8

“Forasmuch then as the children (mankind) are partakers of flesh and blood, he (Jesus) also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;” Hebrews 2:14

This subject then is one of upmost importance to understand because Jesus Christ came to destroy the devil.

God’s principles at stake

To believe in a fallen angel who tempts men to sin against God is to put a number of clear scriptural teachings in jeopardy. Consider the following reasons which clearly prove that the true identity of the Devil an Satan is not an immortal monster.

1. Sinners have to die

“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning…” 1 John 3:8

The Bible tells us that this Devil was a sinner.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

The Bibles clear teaching is that the wages of sin is death. It is impossible therefore to have an immortal being who can sin. If we attempted to suggest that the Devil was a mortal monster then how is it that he has supposedly lived for thousands of years and possesses the powers of disease, deception, death, pain and torment and is permitted by Almighty God to challenge his authority.

2.There is no clear definition of the Devil

“Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets”. Amos 3:7

If the Devil does exist in the way proclaimed by popular Christian theology then why do we not have a clear scriptural description of who he is, what his character is like, what he is doing and why God is allowing him to exist.

Death is the end and not the start of an afterlife

Tombstones the last sign of lifeAmong the ancient pagan religions a single core religious belief is clear to see from the tombs that have survived from those eras – namely the belief in an afterlife. The Babylonians placed weapons and implements in their tombs to help the ‘spirit’ of their dead ones protect itself and be able to hunt on its way to the afterlife. The Egyptian “book of the dead” shows how that they believed that upon death the “Weighing of the Heart” judgment ceremony was performed before the god Osiris. This would determine if the one whose heart was being weighed was worthy of spending eternity in the fields of Hetep and Iaru. The Greeks also believed in an immortal soul. The teachings of Pluto declared that everyone had an “immortal soul” which, depending on how an individual had lived their life, would mean they would either spend an eternity of torture in Hades or Tartarus or spend their time in paradise in Elysian. The Romans also adopted the same doctrine as the Greeks. So the ancients then, believed in the immortality of the soul and an afterlife upon death.

What about the moderns of today? A startling similarity of beliefs exist in current world religions. In Islam the idea of an immortal soul is a fundamental belief. The Buddhist religion teaches that upon death we live on as an ever-changing entity. In Sikhism we find a belief in the “Atma” or “Soul” which continues on after death. The Hindu religion teaches that all have a ‘spirit’ or soul which is reborn, again and again. The Catholic Church and many of the churches that have split off from her, believe in an immortal soul as a core doctrine. The doctrine of the ancients is alive and well in the many world religions we find being practiced today.

However, the important question is: what does the Bible teach about death? We know the Bible is the inspired word of God because of the authority of evidence that is found in its prophecy which surpasses all other religious texts, many of which do not contain a word of prophecy and those that do are untestable. So what does the Bible teach then in regards to death?

THE OFFER OF LIFE OR DEATH

The Offer of Life or Death“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. For the Lord is your life…  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn awaytheir ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”    2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”   John 4:23-24

SEEK THE TRUTH WITH WRESTED SCRIPTURES!

Use this True Bible Teaching Resource to help understanding some of the more difficult passages that many take in isolation to the rest of the Bible and claim that they teach things that the Bible does not teach.

The Bible is a large book, but it teaches us the truth from beginning to end, therefore anything towards the end of the Bible eg. The New Testament must agree with what is taught in the Old Testament, also remember that the divisions of the Bible into Old and New Testaments is a manmade one, the whole Bible is God's WORD to us and must be undersood consistently as such.
