An independent study of the Bible will reveal that the following are key True Bible Teachings:

  1. The Bible is God's word and the only message from him. It is without error, except for copying and translation errors.
  2. There is only one God - the Father. The Holy Spirit is God's power.
  3. Jesus is the Son of God, and a human being, through his mother Mary.
  4. Man is mortal, having no existence when dead.
  5. By living a sinless life, ending with his sacrificial death by crucifixion, Jesus has opened the way of salvation from death.

  7. God raised Jesus from death. Jesus is currently in Heaven, on God's right hand. He will one day return.
  8. When Jesus returns, he will raise his "sleeping" followers from death and grant immortality to the faithful who have tried to live by God's precepts.
  9. His followers will help him to rule, bringing justice, righteousness and peace to the whole world - the Kingdom of God.

WHY IS BIBLE TRUTH SO IMPORTANT?

Bible Truth

THE IMPORTANCE OF BIBLE TRUTH

Is Bible Truth important to your Faith and Salvation ie. will you be saved despite what you believe the bible teaches or does it matter what you believe?

Well the word “truth” appears 237 times in the bible, that alone says it must be important!

Therefore it must be important to understand what “truth” is.

A quick scan of the passages using this word “truth” leave us in no doubt that it is not only important, but vital to our salvation.

John 17:3

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 John 5:20

20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

1 Timothy 2:3-4

3For thisis good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Clearly then knowing what is Bible Truth is important and vital, in addition to this we are also warned that some would depart from the “truth”…

1 Timothy 4:1

1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1 John 4:6

6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

From these passages it is very clear that we need to know the “truth” about God and His Son as it is taught to us in the Bible.  This means we must learn what this is from the Bible itself.

Don't let your HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL rest with someone else eg. your pastor or minister, YOU owe it to yourself and your family to be fully convinced of what it is you believe to be sure it HOLDS something REAL for you.

We have all been warned by God that there would be many false teachers and Jesus himself has told us that "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."  See Matthew 7:14

Sadly when Christ returns to this earth, many will only then realise that they have believed in lies Jeremiah 16:19

"19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit."

Don't let this be you or your family!

The Bible is our only true source for the Truth!

If we claim to follow Christ we should trust in the Scriptures as confidently as Jesus and his Apostles did:

Jesus said that: The Scripture cannot be broken.  (John 10:35)

Paul said that: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16)

Peter said that: For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21)

The things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven (1 Peter 1:12)

The OFFER of LIFE or DEATH

God's Offer of LIFE or DEATH

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.   See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him… This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life…"  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

From this passage we see how important it is to each one of us that we seek after God and His Word the Bible to us.

Without this we have no hope of LIFE, but only a future of DEATH.

This Word of God was originally given to the Nation of Israel and later it spread via the Apostles of Christ to the World, that even we today might have this same HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL.

It is UP to YOU then to seek out God’s Word, to KNOW what is the TRUTH of God’s Word so that you and your family might KNOW the way of LIFE ETERNAL and the great HOPE of living in God’s Kingdom on EARTH.

Do not let your HOPE rest upon others and most importantly on what others teach, search it out for yourself because we have been warned that the churches would be astray from God’s word in the last days.

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”   2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Godis a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

The Bible Is Our ONLY Guide

The Holy BibleThe Bible provides us with plain Scriptural Teaching for the True Followers of Christ

The statements on this guide represent what we believe is true Bible teaching. The statements are deliberately challenging, asking every reader to compare his own opinions with the plain teaching of Scripture, examining carefully the Bible passages offered as proof. If, as a result, a change of mind and heart is called for, there will be no doubt that the teaching of the Lord, and the book he trusted, must be followed and not what the churches teach.

All Scripture quotations are taken from the New King James (also known as the Revised Authorized) Version of the Bible.

The Great Apostasy and The Number of The Beast 666

The Great Apostasy and the Number of the Beast 666

“And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? 5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations…"Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."(Revelation 13:4-18)

Apostasy

In Revelation 13 we read about the BEAST with the number of 666. This is only one of a number of references in the Bible to a great APOSTASY (abandoning of the faith) that would develop. This "falling away" from the true faith actually started in the first century and it has continued into our own day. Many prophecies are written to warn us that this corruption of Bible truth would be very prominent in the last days, just before its final destruction at the return of Christ.

Some references to Consider

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

"And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." (Matthew 24:11-12)

"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God." (2 Thess. 2:3-4)

"Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8)

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come....Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away."( 2 Timothy 3: 1-5)

What does it Mean to Us?

These prophecies of APOSTASY are of obvious concern to all of us. We owe it to ourselves to identify the errors and source of false religion so that we can escape from the judgments that are coming. (See 2 Thess 2:8-12)

"They shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

Paul's warning to Timothy

The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy to warn him of the dangers of the coming APOSTASY. "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
(2 Timothy 4: 1- 4)

Dishonest Gain

Why would people prefer fables to Bible truth? Simply because the promises associated with false religion are more appealing to the flesh. By telling their followers what they want to hear, the false prophets maintain their livelihood. Religion can be a lucrative profitable business. Beware the message of those who are more concerned with donations than truth.

The Fables

How do we identify the fables? First of all, we must follow the example of the disciples at Berea, who searched the scriptures daily to see if what the preachers were telling them was true. (See Acts 17:10-11)

The other thing that we need to be watching out for is a message that is just "too good to be true." Consider the church funeral for a deceased of questionable character who was now being commended to paradise with words of praise.

Watch out for those promises that no matter how much of a sinner we are, God loves us just the way we are, and He will reward us anyway. Sermons of this sort are far removed from the truth as revealed in the Bible.

What really happens when we die?

The True Identity of the DevilWho or What is the Devil

The Bibles Teaching

The true Bible teaching of the devil and satan is very far removed from the popular idea that the devil is an immortal monster with a tail and a pitchfork, tempting man to rebel against God. We hope to show that the Bible teaches that the devil is actually sin which manifests itself in individuals and organisations.

The idea of a “fallen angel” is a idea which has is routes in paganism and was adopted in to Christian theology. The ancient Greeks and Roman pagan religions for example proclaimed the idea of good and evil Gods who would strive together over the souls of men.

These ideas find no real support in the Bible. A lot of assumption and “reading into” the wording has to be done to attempt to find support for this idea and in doing so many solid scriptural principles are broken.

Why is this subject important?

The mission of Jesus Christ was to save us from “the devil”:

“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8

“Forasmuch then as the children (mankind) are partakers of flesh and blood, he (Jesus) also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;” Hebrews 2:14

This subject then is one of upmost importance to understand because Jesus Christ came to destroy the devil.

God’s principles at stake

To believe in a fallen angel who tempts men to sin against God is to put a number of clear scriptural teachings in jeopardy. Consider the following reasons which clearly prove that the true identity of the Devil an Satan is not an immortal monster.

1. Sinners have to die

“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning…” 1 John 3:8

The Bible tells us that this Devil was a sinner.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

The Bibles clear teaching is that the wages of sin is death. It is impossible therefore to have an immortal being who can sin. If we attempted to suggest that the Devil was a mortal monster then how is it that he has supposedly lived for thousands of years and possesses the powers of disease, deception, death, pain and torment and is permitted by Almighty God to challenge his authority.

2.There is no clear definition of the Devil

“Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets”. Amos 3:7

If the Devil does exist in the way proclaimed by popular Christian theology then why do we not have a clear scriptural description of who he is, what his character is like, what he is doing and why God is allowing him to exist.

Death is the end and not the start of an afterlife

Tombstones the last sign of lifeAmong the ancient pagan religions a single core religious belief is clear to see from the tombs that have survived from those eras – namely the belief in an afterlife. The Babylonians placed weapons and implements in their tombs to help the ‘spirit’ of their dead ones protect itself and be able to hunt on its way to the afterlife. The Egyptian “book of the dead” shows how that they believed that upon death the “Weighing of the Heart” judgment ceremony was performed before the god Osiris. This would determine if the one whose heart was being weighed was worthy of spending eternity in the fields of Hetep and Iaru. The Greeks also believed in an immortal soul. The teachings of Pluto declared that everyone had an “immortal soul” which, depending on how an individual had lived their life, would mean they would either spend an eternity of torture in Hades or Tartarus or spend their time in paradise in Elysian. The Romans also adopted the same doctrine as the Greeks. So the ancients then, believed in the immortality of the soul and an afterlife upon death.

What about the moderns of today? A startling similarity of beliefs exist in current world religions. In Islam the idea of an immortal soul is a fundamental belief. The Buddhist religion teaches that upon death we live on as an ever-changing entity. In Sikhism we find a belief in the “Atma” or “Soul” which continues on after death. The Hindu religion teaches that all have a ‘spirit’ or soul which is reborn, again and again. The Catholic Church and many of the churches that have split off from her, believe in an immortal soul as a core doctrine. The doctrine of the ancients is alive and well in the many world religions we find being practiced today.

However, the important question is: what does the Bible teach about death? We know the Bible is the inspired word of God because of the authority of evidence that is found in its prophecy which surpasses all other religious texts, many of which do not contain a word of prophecy and those that do are untestable. So what does the Bible teach then in regards to death?

Bible Answers to Moral Questions (to be covered in this article)

Forgiveness in Christ Are Individuals Born Gay?
What has all this to do with our subject? Homosexual Tendencies
Why is homosexuality abhorrent to God? The Sinking Sands of Sin
Marriage - Divinely Ordained A Tolerant Society
An Underlying Reason Is Our Age any Different?
Hard Teaching?

Homosexuality and the Bible

TODAY'S society places a great emphasis on sex and sexual behaviour. What used to be private is now open to the harsh glare of publicity. In past generations there was a generally accepted code of morality, and deviations from that code were treated as just that - deviant behaviour. But today a vast range of sexual behaviour is both tolerated and promoted. Each individual is encouraged from the youngest age to do what suits him or her best. This climate of toleration and licence is particularly noticeable where homosexuality is concerned. It is an increasingly prominent way of life, and there are powerful pressure groups ensuring that the homosexual viewpoint is always presented on an equal basis with heterosexuality. The prevalent term is 'Gay activism', where 'gay' is used to describe every form of homosexuality.

These pressures continue and grow, despite the Bible's clear and absolute rejection of homosexuality. The alternative lifestyle is so strongly promoted these days that even the established churches are much less forthright in condemning homosexuality. They can only act like this by denying the Divine authority of the Bible, and by believing that a 'loving' relationship - of whatever form - is more important than upholding God's law. In this modern world, we need to know why the Bible says that homosexual behaviour is so wrong, and why - despite the Bible's message - some churchmen so often defend an individual's right to enter into a homosexual relationship.

As the title of this article suggests, there is a religious element to the subject. Religion is about relationships - primarily the relationship between God and man, but it is also about man's own relationships with his fellow-creatures. What we learn through a religious faith, is that God is the Sovereign Power who must be worshipped, and who is entitled to the obedience of His creatures. Bible believers recognise that they are not free to invent their own moral code, but have to accept the unchanging commands given by God which can be found in His Word. They must try to live lives that are pleasing to Him. Jesus said, "You are my friends if you do whatever I command you" (John 15:14), and in God's Word can be found a description of the character He desires to find in men and women: "On this one will I look: on him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word" (Isaiah 66:2).

God's purpose involves reconciling man to Himself, and repairing the relationship that was destroyed by Sin - which is essentially the failure to fulfill God's commands. This reconciliation was achieved by God, and at His initiative. He sent Jesus Christ, who was completely obedient to Him. Jesus overcame where every other man and woman has failed, and his life became a pattern for every true believer to follow. Through their association with him by faith and baptism, Christians are brought near to God. In discussing the subject of homosexuality and the church, therefore, we must seek to discover God's assessment, and be guided by His Word, and ask how Jesus would react if he was living in today's world.

Forgiveness in Christ
But first we shall look at the Christian life and the appeal of the Gospel message.

Beware of False TeachingTHE TRINITY

TRUTH OR ERROR -

FACT OR FIGMENT ?

Mark 12:28  “And one of the scribes came and asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel;

The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”

That a true understanding of the Godhead is essential to being granted Eternal Life by the Grace of our God is forced upon our consciousness by the words expressed in the Gospel of John:

JOHN 17:3 "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

Therefore we are obliged to come to a correct knowledge of (a) the only true God, and (b) Jesus Christ who was sent by that "only true God".

That others have been "sent by God" is evident from a number of Scriptures:

JOHN 1:6 "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe."

There has been onlyOne sent by God through whom man may receive eternal life.

That One was once a man.He came in fulfillment of hundreds of Old Testament prophecies to "take away the sin of the world." To do this He was "born of a woman, born under the Law." As such he experienced all that Adam's race experiences and, having overcome sin and destroyed its power  God exalted him to be High Priest for the race.... "Mediator between God and man" (1 Timothy 2:5).

HEBREWS 4:14  “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."

Being raised from the dead, His Father bestowed on Him "the divine nature" (1 Peter 1:4) and took Him into heaven where He now waits until he returns torule this world in fulfillment of hundreds of both Old and New Testament prophecies.

HEBREWS 9:27  “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”

To say that Jesus wasGod, of divine nature before his birth and his life of tribulation, trial and affliction, is to falsify the evidence and suggest that he had merely acted out a pantomime which is the record in the four Gospels. Jesus victory was a triumph over self and serves as an example to all who would follow him as true disciples. Contrary to the doctrine of the Trinity, we are distinctly told that it was "for the joy which was set before him" that he "endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:2).

It was a joy which had been pre-ordained "before the world was", but which he had not experienced before. He is now at the right hand of his Father.

THE ONE TRUE GOD

We have already referred to Jesus' words: "...to know thee, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent". But there are other statements just as emphatic in demonstrating that Jesus and the apostles served THE FATHER and not a trinity.

The discussion which Jesus had with the Samaritan woman at the well of Jacob is but one example.

women at the well JOHN 4:19  "The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. 25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he."

If we analyse that conversation we see that:

1. Jesus tells the woman that she should worship the Father, not a trinity.

2. That Jesus was a Jew....("we know what WE worship").

3. If "Salvation is of the Jews"......did the Jews believe in a trinity?

4. Jesus claimed to be Messiah, but claimed that he, as a loyal Jew, worshipped the Father, and laid no claim to be God.

5. Jesus claimed that God was Spirit, but always referred to himself as either "son of Man" or "Son of God" but never "God the Son".

The Jewish belief has always been in One God whom Jesus referred to as"the only true God". This doctrine is stated clearly inthe first commandment....Deuteronomy 6:4 (Isaiah 43:8-13).

4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might."

When Jesus quoted these very words to the scribe who asked him, "Which is the greatest commandment of all?", He used the exact words found in the Septuagint Version, literally translated into English as "Lord, the God of us, Lord is one".

Jesus Christ could not have been inventedJesus could not have been invented

The Gospels depict Jesus in a way unlike any other historical figure or character of the day, either Jewish or from Roman-Greek society. He has some of the characteristics of a Jewish teacher, but there are major problems with seeing him in this way. There is nothing about him to suggest he is a Greek hero.

The Apostle Paul noted this:

"For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness" (1 Corinthians 1:22–23).

The point here is that if the pagan Greeks were inventing someone to be the Son of God, he would not have been crucified. Instead he would have been a hero in the Greek mould. Similarly, if the figure of a Messiah were to have been invented by a Jew, then that Messiah would not have been crucified.

The Jewish Expectation

The Jewish idea of Messiah came from the Old Testament. Passages like Psalm 2 give a picture of the kind of person the Messiah would be:

"The LORD has said to me, “You are My Son, today I have begotten you. Ask of Me, and I will give you the nations for your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; you shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.” (Psalm 2:7–9).

In the first and early second centuries there were a number of people who claimed to be the Messiah and raised rebel armies to defeat the Romans. All of them failed and their followers were scattered. However, their existence indicates what Jews expected in a Messiah.

The Rapture - True or False?

There are many books available today which state that the Bible speaks of a time when a certain group of people, willThe Rapture is False Bible Teaching experience a removal from the planet earth to enjoy a blissful experience with Christ in heaven.  This period is known as the Rapture. While this is taking place the remainder of the world's population will undergo, it is stated, the 'Great Tribulation'.  The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that best selling publications such as 'The Late Great Planet Earth', which advance such teaching, are astray from an understanding of the prophetic plan that God has revealed to man in the Bible.

THE RETURN OF CHRIST

In unmistakable and precise terms the Bible demonstrates that Jesus is to return to the earth, and with this we have no quarrel.  In Acts 1:11, the angel said to the disciples "...this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."  But for what purpose is he to return?  Before the birth of Jesus, the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that God would give unto him the throne of David, that he would reign over the house of Jacob for ever. Shortly before his death, Jesus in response to Pilate's question as to whether he was indeed the King of the Jews, explained "My kingdom is not of this world" (Greek kosmos - Order of things).

The Law of Moses, the order of things then in existence, was not the form of government over which Jesus is to rule.

However, implied in his answer nevertheless, was the teaching that he would be a king over a kingdom at a future period.  Other examples could be cited where the Bible confidently predicts that Jesus will return to earth to reign.

THE RAPTURE THEORY IS INCONSISTENT WITH BIBLE TEACHING ABOUT THE RETURN OF CHRIST

The Bible promises men and women a reward if they are obedient to the commandments that are contained in its pages for their guidance.  This reward is eternal life, not in heaven but on earth, for example.  "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the EARTH". This being so, we would ask, how then will believers be "raptured"?  In fact nowhere in the Bible do we find the notion that believers go to heaven!  Furthermore, if Christ is to return to the earth, why should his followers go to heaven?  Ought they not to be with him on earth?  Jesus promised his disciples that they would sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.  This points emphatically to the revealed will of God to restore the former kingdom of Israel, in a day when people will call "Jerusalem the throne of the Lord" (Jeremiah 3:17).

The Offer of LIFE and DEATHThe Offer of Life or Death

For the Lord is your life…  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”   2 Timothy 4:3-4

How Confident is your Faith?

Do you have Faith that your Bus will arrive? We all have faith. Not everybody recognises this, but it’s true. We can’t exist without faith.

When you go out in the morning, you have faith that the bus will turn up, or the car will start. You have faith that the shops will be open. If you had no faith, you wouldn’t bother getting out of bed.

Of course, your faith is based on facts – it’s not blind faith. Suppose you want to go into town. You could sit down by the side of a random road and wait for the right bus to come along – that would be blind faith.

You’d probably be waiting for a long time. Or you could look at the timetable to check where and when the bus goes, then wait at the bus stop at the right time – that’s faith based on facts. And that way you’d be much more likely to get to town.

The point is, as you stand and wait at the bus stop you don’t know for certain that the bus will turn up, but you have faith that it will, based on your knowledge of the facts.

The Christian life is also a life of faith. This is not blind faith, but confident faith based on knowledge and experience.

Christian Faith

A friend once said to me, “I wish I had your faith!”

This was a very sad thing to say – it implied that my faith was somehow out of reach for him. That’s not true. I think what he really meant was, “I’d like to have your faith but I’m not prepared to give it a go.”

Faith in God is not difficult to achieve. The apostle Paul puts it succinctly:

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

That’s all there is to it! Read the Bible with an open mind and a teachable attitude. God’s word will then do its job and it will instil faith. It may not happen overnight, but it will happen.

Here are three ways in which it can do this:

1 – Fulfilled Prophecy

“You are My witnesses”, says the LORD, “and My servant whom I have chosen. That you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me” (Isaiah 43:10).

In this chapter God is talking to the people of Israel. He is saying, if you want evidence of My existence just look at yourselves!

Whatever you think of the Jews, you cannot deny that they are a remarkable people with a remarkable history.

The NATURE of Christ - Who is he?

Christ in agony in the Garden of GethsemaneThere has been much controversy about the nature and character of Jesus Christ.

It began in New Testament times when many people were asking who he was and where he came from.

Once Jesus asked his disciples the question: “Who do you say that I am?” and it was Peter who answered correctly, that Jesus is the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16).

Since then the question has been asked many times and has been answered quite differently in creeds and confessions.

In this article  Derek Vyse looks at some of the creedal statements and then explains what the Bible really teaches.

A Brief History

The Apostles Creed (the oldest surviving confession of faith) uses simple language to explain who Jesus is:

1.      I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

2.      I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.

3.      He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

4.      He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

It was much later on that a controversy arose between two priests in the church at Alexandria, in Egypt.  Arius and Athanasius worked there together and responded very differently to a sermon they heard.  The Arian view was that “If the Father begat the Son, he that was begotten had a beginning of existence: and from this it is evident, that there was a time when the Son was not.  It therefore  necessarily follows, that he [the Son] had his substance from nothing.”

Controversy

That controversy lasted for centuries and was said to hinge on one Greek letter making the difference between a word meaning ‘of like nature’ (Arius) and another word meaning ‘of the same nature’ (Athanasius).  It eventually resulted in the formulation of the Creeds relating to God and Christ.

The Nicene Creed (AD 450) introduced terms like “the Son Incarnate”.  The Athanasius Creed (6th century AD) used very complex language to declare the belief that Jesus was “God the Son”.  So, in the space of 600 years, a complete reversal of doctrine had taken place compared to the message that had been preached by the Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ.

By now the Creeds have been recited many times and are viewed as a fundamental part of established Christianity.  But it should never be forgotten that they emerged as the result of great and sharp controversy using the full range of Greek philosophical methods which were applied to the interpretation of the New Testament.

These later Creeds were forced upon the established Churches.  This is why a Bible scholar could say that ‘The doctrines of the Nicene and Athanasius Creeds find no part in the original Gospel.

These Creeds would sound strange in the ears of the apostles Paul and John.’

Bible Teaching

If we take a brief look at what the Bible teaches we can compare the various propositions that were negotiated in the Creeds with what the Bible actually says.

1.    Was Jesus Co-Equal with God?

Nathan the prophet made this remarkable prediction concerning a descendant of King David, and he made it about one thousand years before Jesus was born of the virgin Mary:

“When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom … I will be his Father, and he shall be My son (2 Samuel 7:12–14).

SEEK THE TRUTH WITH WRESTED SCRIPTURES!

Use this True Bible Teaching Resource to help understanding some of the more difficult passages that many take in isolation to the rest of the Bible and claim that they teach things that the Bible does not teach.

The Bible is a large book, but it teaches us the truth from beginning to end, therefore anything towards the end of the Bible eg. The New Testament must agree with what is taught in the Old Testament, also remember that the divisions of the Bible into Old and New Testaments is a manmade one, the whole Bible is God's WORD to us and must be undersood consistently as such.
