The earth, of all the planets in the solar system, is the one that is perfectly suited to all forms of life and the one that orbits at exactly the right distance from the sun to provide comfortable conditions for the human race.

  7. God raised Jesus from death. Jesus is currently in Heaven, on God's right hand. He will one day return.
  8. When Jesus returns, he will raise his "sleeping" followers from death and grant immortality to the faithful who have tried to live by God's precepts.
  9. His followers will help him to rule, bringing justice, righteousness and peace to the whole world - the Kingdom of God.

God's Offer of LIFE or DEATH

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.   See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him… This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life…"  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

 

From this passage we see how important it is to each one of us that we seek after God and His Word the Bible to us.

 

Without this we have no hope of LIFE, but only a future of DEATH.

 

This Word of God was originally given to the Nation of Israel and later it spread via the Apostles of Christ to the World, that even we today might have this same HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL.

 

It is UP to YOU then to seek out God’s Word, to KNOW what is the TRUTH of God’s Word so that you and your family might KNOW the way of LIFE ETERNAL and the great HOPE of living in God’s Kingdom on EARTH.

 

Do not let your HOPE rest upon others and most importantly on what others teach, search it out for yourself because we have been warned that the churches would be astray from God’s word in the last days.

 

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”   2 Timothy 4:3-4

 

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

 

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

 

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Godis a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

T-Rex Soft Tissue Disproves Evolution

Is there something wrong when a supposedly 70 million-year-old tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur is found with soft tissue—including blood vessels and even whole cells? This is what a U.S. researcher reported in late March.  Biologist Mary Schweitzer discovered this soft tissue when it was necessary to break a T. rex’s huge thigh bone.

Schweitzer said that the vessels were flexible and some could even be squeezed. After extensive testing, there was confirmation that this T. rex bone even had hemoglobin (red blood cells).

This discovery is unexplained by evolutionary thinking, which suggests that millions and millions of years have passed since this “King of Dinos” met its demise. Schweitzer is puzzled and cannot understand why this bone was not mineralized. “It’s very amazing. It’s utterly shocking, actually, because it flies in the face of everything we understand about how tissues and cells degrade,” she said on MSNBC.

In 1995, Joe Taylor, a professional dinosaur excavator and a biblical creationist, was curious about the hip girdle of another T. rex that was found in 1916. It was found in the same Hell Creek Formation where Schweitzer’s T. rex bone was found. Taylor was amazed that this 65 million-year-old specimen still had the appearance of skin on the sacral vertebrae. He sent a sample to Azusa Pacific College in California and had it scanned with an electron microscope by Professor Mark Armitage, who found that the bone had collagen filaments intact inside the bone. The presence of collagen suggests that this supposedly 65 million year old fossil was not completely fossilized. Armitage states, “It can’t be but a few thousand years old.”

So the Theory of Evolution is just that ‘A Theory’ that has never been proved and evidence like this says it can’t be and isn’t true.

Jerusalem The Eternal Capital of the Jewish People

 On November 7th 2017 THE PRESIDENT of the United States said: “When I came into office, I promised to look at the world’s challenges with open eyes and very fresh thinking. We cannot solve our problems by making the same failed assumptions and repeating the same failed strategies of the past. Old challenges demand new approaches.  My announcement today marks the beginning of a new approach to conflict between Israel and the Palestinians… "

"…Today, we finally acknowledge the obvious: that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital. This is nothing more, or less, than a recognition of reality. It is also the right thing to do. It's something that has to be done.

That is why, consistent with the Jerusalem Embassy Act, I am also directing the State Department to begin preparation to move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.”

Trump on Jerusalem

What made Trump's statement so significant and so highly controversial is that Trump simply said “Jerusalem,” and specifically did not define the capital as West Jerusalem.  Even Russia earlier this year declared West Jerusalem the capital of Israel, but in defining West Jerusalem the capital it is equally declaring East Jerusalem as not being the capital, and that narrative is not new.   And for anyone who is not familiar with difference, it is East Jerusalem as it is known today that contains ancient Jerusalem, meaning the City of David, the temple mount and really all the places that hold significance.   Nicki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN spoke to this detail on an interview on CNN with Wolf Blitzer:

This unwillingness to say that that the path to peace must be through the two state solution is truly a new era in the seemly never ending peace process.  Further to that the complete unwillingness of the United States to now compromise the safety of Israel or force anything upon them seems so foreign after the Obama years.  In fact many see this as a perfect response to the Obama administrations abstention of UN resolution 2334 which denied Israel any right to the City of David, the western wall, or the temple mount.  

And with so much Jerusalem in the news the Bible is also very much in the news.  The following is a message of thanks from Benjamin Netanyahu to President Trump.

Stirring Up of The King of the SouthIsrael and Saudi

The King of the South Asserts Itself Against Iran, Forming Biblical Partnerships as it Does. 

FULFILLING BIBLE PROPHECY.

Saudi Arabia has been going through a transformation to take on the growing influence of Iran in the Middle East. America has been wanting it to take this role, but now is concerned. Israel comes out and speaks openly of forging an alliance with it. The Biblical players who make up the King of the South are coming into place.

During the past few weeks (November 2017) it has become evident that the powers south of Israel are undergoing a metamorphosis, and aligning themselves with the biblical script that is laid out in the Prophets.

The Southern Confederacy as Described by the Prophets

Zechariah describes the scene as two mountains of brass, (the biblical representation of flesh,) having developed in the region surrounding Israel,

between which the cherubic chariots roar through when the March of the Rainbowed angel commences:

“And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.” (Zechariah 6:1)

Ezekiel describes these two mountains of brass in terms of the Gogian confederacy to the north and a southern conglomerate in alliance with the Merchants of Tarshish who protest Gog’s invasion of the land:

“Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?” (Ezekiel 38:13)

Daniel describes the mountains of brass as a king of the North and a King of the South who provokes the King of the North, drawing him into the land:

“And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.” (Daniel 11:40)

Later he identifies some of the players holding out to the south when the King of the North invades the land:

“He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.” (Daniel 11:41)

So the southern confederacy is a mercantile alliance under the influence of the king of the south, containing Sheba, Dedan, Edom, Moab, and Ammon. We have explored at length the Merchants of Tarshish and the young lions, which equate to Britain (the mother lion) and its former colonial territories, now independent young lions, including in their ranks America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and South Africa.

John Thomas, when writing Elpis Israel in 1848, during the days of the Ottoman Turkish Empire looked for developments that would see this group coming together under the influence of Britain:

But what is the lion-power of which Ezekiel speaks? To ascertain this we must direct our attention to the countries named in connection with “the young lions”. Of these, Sheba and Dedan are districts of Arabia. The men of Dedan are in the list given by Ezekiel of the traders in the Tyrian fairs. The Dedanim carried thither the ivory and ebony which they procured from “the many isles” to the eastward, and “precious clothes for chariots”. Sheba carried the “chief of all spices, precious stones, and gold”. Dedan and Sheba were those parts of Arabia which lay convenient to the ivory, gold, precious stones, and spice countries of Africa and India. The Sultan of Muscat now rules the country of Dedan; while the British have planted their standard on the soil of Sheba, at Aden, the Gibraltar of the Red Sea, and key of Egypt.… The British power is the lion-power of Sheba. (John Thomas, 1848, Elpis Israel, pp467)

John Thomas correctly predicted the demise of the Ottomon Turkish Empire, and the occupation of the region by Britain, which occurred 70 years after he wrote, and 100 years ago from our time in December 1917. This gave room for the rebirth of the State of Israel, a preparatory move for the coming kingdom of God, described in the book of Revelation as the drying up of the River Euphrates:

“And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might (sun’s rising) be prepared.” (Revelation 16:12)

Preparing for the Final Stage

However, once the nation of Israel was established in the land in 1948, Britain lost its direct influence in the region. The mantle was passed over to America who would be the protecting Lion for a period of time. Britain re-introduced herself to the region, alongside her grown up whelp when the Gulf Wars begin in 1991, and has been there along with Canada, New Zealand, Australia and others since this time to varying degrees. A conglomeration of nations rushed to the aid of Kuwait under President George Bush, and then again after 9/11 they invaded Afghanistan and subsequently Iraq to protect the Gulf states, and consequently Israel from the aggression of Saddam Hussein. After a vacuum was created in Iraq, a new group ISIS or DAESH was formed in the region and violence spilled over into other countries such as Syria, bringing Russia into the region during Obama’s impotent stint as president.

The whole arena has been undergoing terrific turmoil since the British departure as the protector over the region. It is worth taking a couple of minutes to consider the background of the players:

Egypt was a British protectorate until it gained independence in 1936, remaining a monarchy until 1953 when Gamal Abdul Nasser took over during a military coup. His efforts to destroy Israel were routed during the Six Day War in 1967,  but remained in power until his death in 1970 when Anwar Sadat took over. Sadat tried to destroy Israel in 1973 during the Yom Kippur War, but was defeated and began the peace process under President Carter, and with Menachem Begin. He was assassinated in 1981, after which Hosni Mubarak took over and ruled until the Arab Spring protests when he was deposed in 2011. The Muslim Brotherhood under President Morsi ruled until the military overthrew it in 2013 and installed al-Sisi as President.

To the east of Israel is the nation of Jordan, which became an independent Arab state in 1946 as part of the partition of the region by the UN. Its ruler was King Abdullah, who had fought with Lawrence of Arabia to oust the Turks. He was assassinated by Palestinians terrorists in 1951. His son King Hussein took over, and ruled during the 1967 Six Day War when Jordan was defeated and lost the West Bank Territory, and during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. He signed a peace with Israel’s Yitzhak Rabin in 1994. He died in 1999 and his son Abdullah took the throne. 

Saudi Arabia became independent from the Ottoman Empire over a period of time from 1913 through 1925 when Mecca and Medina were incorporated into the territory. It was in 1932 the areas controlled by the different tribal kings were unified under the name of Saudi Arabia and Abd-al-Aziz was proclaimed King. The nation is ruled by the Saud family since that time. In 1938 oil was discovered in the region making Saudi Arabia the wealthiest state in the region. Recently, in 2015 Saudi Arabia launches air attacks on the Houthi rebels in Yemen, citing Iranian interference in the region. In 2017, Saudi Arabia isolates Qatar in an attempt to have it cut ties with terror organizations. In June of 2017 King Salman names his son Mohammed bin Salman first in line to the throne, and Mohammed begins a purge of the kingdom to consolidate his power.

To the southeast of Israel is the kingdom of Kuwait which gained independence from Britain in 1961. It is rule by an Emir. In 1990 Iraq invaded Kuwait and annexed it. The Emir and government fled to Saudi Arabia. In 1991 the Gulf war saw the Emir restored to power in Kuwait. In 2003, Kuwait was used as a base for the Second Gulf War lead by America. The Kuwaiti Emir survived the Arab Spring, during a very rocky political period. Recently, Kuwait joined Saudi Arabia in air strikes on the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

To the far south of Israel, occupying the ancient area of Sheba is Yemen. It gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1918. In 1962 the royal family was overthrown and the army set up the Yemen Arab Republic beginning a civil war where the royalists were supported by the Saudi’s and the Republicans were supported by the Egyptians. South Yemen gained independence from the North in 1967 when the People's Republic of Yemen was formed, but Marxists took over in 1969, putting Yemen into the influence of the Soviet bloc. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Yemen reunited in 1990, although several groups have tried to establish an independent Yemen in the south. The 2011 Arab Spring dramatically affected Yemen and the president resigned. In 2014 the Houthi rebels took control of the North and a new civil war began in earnest. The Houthi’s are named after their founder and are predominantly Shia Muslims, and are backed by Iran, and are violently anti-west and anti-Israel. The Houthi’s are considered terrorists by Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Australia.

These are the nations that form the “Edom, Moab Ammon, Sheba and Dedan” contingent at the time of the end. They have been created in dried out waddies of the Ottoman empire. They have been through much turmoil during their development. What is very interesting is that three of them are still ruled by kings.  They are “kings of the south” under the influence of merchants of Tarshish, also united under a monarch, with the exception of its eldest son, America. Now we see them coming into the roles described by the prophets of the Bible.

Balfour Declaration Britain and the Bible

BalfourDec12017 is the Centenary of the 1917 Balfour Declaration

The first week of November 2017 was the centenary of the Balfour Declaration of 1917 and featured in major news around the world.

When the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, hosted the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu in London, she said that she was proud of the U.K.'s "pioneering role" in assisting the birth of the State of Israel.

She had warm words to say about Israel and Israel's right to exist, but it was qualified by referring to what she called "illegal settlements." The Balfour Declaration signalled British support for Jewish settlement in Palestine, but it was also a fudge, not defining the extent of settlement. The key passage read:

"His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."

As Barbara Tuchman has pointed out in her book "Bible & Sword,"

"The Mandate, not the Balfour Declaration, gave a footing in public law to the restoration of Israel in Palestine. The Balfour Declaration was simply a statement of policy that any subsequent government could have ignored, allowed to lapse, or even repudiated. But the Mandate was an international engagement, signed and ratified by the Principal Allied Powers acting through the League of Nations, and as such it raised the Balfour Declaration, which was incorporated in it, to the status of a treaty."

So it was the Mandate rather than the Declaration itself that gave the Jewish State its legitimacy, and it was the League of Nations that was responsible for it, and it was the United Nations that assigned land for this in November 1947.

But what most commentators miss out of their analysis is the fact that behind the whole issue there is something that no one seems to want to acknowledge - and that is the influence of the Bible. It is Barbara Tuchman again, in the book "Bible & Sword" who points out:

"In Balfour the motive was Biblical rather than imperial. If the Biblical culture of England can be said to have any meaning in England's redemption of Palestine from the rule of Islam, it may be epitomized in Balfour... Long before he ever heard of Zionism Balfour, steeped in the Bible from childhood, had felt a particular interest in the "people of the Book." According to his niece, companion, and biographer, Mrs. Dugdale,  it was a "life long" interest that "originated in the Old Testament training of his mother and his Scottish upbringing."

The Earth was Corrupt Before God and the Earth was Filled with Violence

The senseless violence in Las Vegas that gripped the United States once again tells us we are living in the time of the end.

While police search for a motive, the true motive is found in the scriptures of truth - human nature. The corrupt world we live in is becoming more and more violent as unrestrained wickedness manifests itself. The Bible tells us the time immediately proceeding the return of Christ will be full of violence, just as it was in the days of Noah and Lot. We need to ensure that we remain separate from the world in these last days.

Concert goers flee gunfire in Las Vegas

This past weekend terror stuck the United States again. Home-grown terror was sparked as 64 year old retiree, Stephen Paddock, opened fire from the 32nd floor of a hotel with 24 guns. 59 people were killed, and 527 were injured when thousands of bullets were unleashed into the crowd gathered for a country music concert.

What was supposed to be a 3 day concert weekend of music, partying and revelry turned into a massacre on Sunday night.

This massacre follows an increase of massacres and violence throughout the world.

As it was in the Days of Noah

When describing the “coming of the son of man” Jesus likened those days to the days of Noah and Lot.

“And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” (Luke 17:26–30)

The immediate context of this passage is the destruction of AD70, for the end of the chapter describes the gathering of the Roman eagles:

“And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.” (Luke 17:37)

However, as indicated earlier in the discussion, there would be several “coming of the days of the son of man:”

“And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.” (Luke 17:22)

These would be the days when the son of man would be “revealed” or apocalypse. The character of these days is common, whether they be Christ’s coming in judgment in AD70 or his second coming which we believe to be immanent.

A world given over to pleasure

In this age, everyday life goes on without reference to God, just as it did at critical points of judgment in time past, whether the flood of Noah’s day, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, or the destruction of Jerusalem in AD70. Society was wrapped up in “marrying, giving in marriage, planting, and building.” Nothing wrong with these things by themselves, but conduced completely without reference to existence of God or a higher purpose with the earth. Society today can be described the word hedonistic, which is defined by the dictionary as:

Engaged in the pursuit of pleasure; sensually self-indulgent. "A hedonistic existence of drink, drugs, and parties." Synonyms: self-indulgent, pleasure-seeking, sybaritic, lotus-eating, epicurean, good-time; unrestrained, intemperate, immoderate, extravagant, decadent.

That pretty much describes the society that we live in, and especially the culture of Las Vegas, also known as “Sin City”. It is a society wholly given to the self-indulgent pursuit of pleasure and a “good time.” Known for the motto, “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” the city advertises itself as a destination for indulgent behaviour without consequence.

While the world is given over to the pursuit of pleasure, as believers in a greater purpose with the earth, we need to be sure that we don’t get pulled up in this lifestyle in any way. It can choke spiritual growth like the thorns in the parable of the sower:

“And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.” (Mark 4:18–19)

We cannot let the pursuit of riches or the lust of other things to choke our spiritual growth. We need to leave the worldly lifestyle behind, as Peter comments (using the ESV translation):

 “Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you;” (1 Peter 4:1–4)

The world may be surprised that we will not join them in the same “flood of debauchery” but this is who we must be.  Separate from the world:

“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation (ESV conduct); Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:13–16)

The United Nations vs Israel

A look at the recent events surrounding UN and its anti Israel nature which has lead to the United States of AmericaUNESCO withdrawing during this last week from UNESCO.

On November 29, 1947 the United Nations voted on, and approved Resolution 181, the plan for the partition of Palestine, which was at that point ruled over by the British.  33 for, 13 against, and 10 abstentions, and God’s land had been parted.  It was a rare moment in history when the nations of the world voted to give the Jewish people a homeland, but it was on the back of the Holocaust and the very traumatic and publicized events surrounding the boat “Exodus 1947”.  Of course the Arab nations in the Middle East voted against the plan, and once the British had pulled out on May 15th, 1948 they attacked the newly proclaimed State of Israel.  Israel however won the war and increased their territory.

In 1967 the Arab world led by General Nasser decided to again attack Israel and rectify the Jewish problem.  They surrounded Israel with military might, shut the Straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping, and told the UN to pull out of the Sinai where there was a peace keeping force in place.  Unfortunately for them under all this pressure Israel decided it had no choice but to pre-emptively attack.  The June war of 1967 ultimately brought Israel the possession of the Sinai, the West Bank, the Golan Heights and further territory in the north.

It would take one more war in 1973 with Israel before the Arab world changed their tactics.  Egypt and Jordan made peace with Israel, but as a whole the Arab world along with many other nations in Africa and Europe (including and in fact especially the Vatican) have continued to make war on Israel through the use of the Palestinian people and the United Nations.  It has made the United Nations and its various arms into a continual force against Israel.  

It is not surprising that if the Nations of the world are uniting over anything, they would find common ground between themselves in their hatred of God’s people.  Joel 3 tells us as much in the first three verses:

“1  For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem,

2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

3 And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.”

This anti-Israel bloc that is against God’s heritage is so blatant that even then - Secretary General Kofi Anan had to admit there was a problem.  In his speech to open the 61st General Assembly of the United Nations in September 2006 he said 

“On one side, supporters of Israel feel that it is harshly judged by standards that are not applied to its enemies, and too often this is true, particularly in some UN bodies.”  Again on December 17, 2016 he said that there was a “disproportionate focus on Israel” that has “foiled the ability of the UN to fulfill its role effectively,” he further explained that “decades of political maneuvering have created a disproportionate number of resolutions, reports and committees against Israel.”  This is unfortunately an understatement.  Netanyahu spoke to this in a speech with maybe a little more explanation at the UN in 2016, the following is an excerpt:

“Year after year, I've stood at this very podium and slammed the U.N. for its obsessive bias against Israel and the U.N. deserved every scathing word. For the disgrace of the General Assembly, that last year passed 20 resolutions against the democratic state of Israel and a grand total of three resolutions against all the other countries on the planet.

King of the South is fulfilling Bible Prophecy

Israel and Saudi

The nations of the Arabian Peninsula and Egypt forge ties with Israel as expected from Bible prophecy supported by Britain and America.

Today we are witnessing the remarkable fulfilment of Bible Prophecy in the developments of Israel, Egypt and the Southern Gulf States of the Arabian Peninsula.

In Ezekiel 38, an alliance is seen opposing the northern alliance of nations that invade Israel.  They are described in this way: 

Ezekiel 38:13 “13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?”

Tarshish is understood to be Britain and her young lions as the English speaking peoples that have grown from her empire,Britain Lion the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, etc.  The location of the Biblical Tarshish is clearly identifiable based on the Bible and historical records.

There are nations with these Tarshish nations and they are here called Sheba and Dedan.  These powers are fairly universally defined as nations of the Arabian Peninsula.  Today we would be talking primarily about Saudi Arabia and Yemen.  

In Daniel chapter 11, this same power is called “the king of the south”.  The name alludes to southern section of the Grecian empire that after the death of Alexander was divided between his four generals. The dominant area of the southern kingdom was Egypt.  Daniel 11 focuses on two areas of this division in their relation to the nation of Israel, calling them the “king of the north” and the “king of the south.”

The Tarshish “king of the South” power is then seen to comprise of Egypt and the nations of the Arabian Peninsula.  As well as the English speaking trading nations.

In the group of aggressors spoken of in Ezekiel 38 we have a selection of Muslim nations also.  Persia, Ethiopia and Libya.  This tells us that there will be, as we are seeing today, a bitter division in the Muslim world.  We have a coalition of nations that include Muslims that are attacking the Jewish state and many others also, and we have Muslim nations that are standing with Israel.

For the decades following the establishment of the State of Israel, all Arab and Muslim countries stood firmly opposed to a Jewish state in their Biblical homeland.  They all vowed to drive Israel into the sea and attempted to do so in successive wars.  As the conflict has ground on and their ability to rouse the troops of their Arab neighbours to fight their battle worn thin, the tool of choice for the Palestinian Arabs has become the terror attack.  In fact, it really is the terror organizations pushing for Palestine to replace Israel that have popularized terrorism in the modern Muslim world.  

The title of The Father of Modern Terrorism could be given to Yasser Arafat.  The first large suicide bombing campaign since WW2 was in Lebanon and carried out by what would become Hizbollah.  Israel’s enemies have bestowed upon the world the phenomenon of the terror attack.

In the span of just 24 hours this week, a series of powerful earthquakes rocked several locations along the Pacific one by one this week, all in a seismic region known as the ‘Ring of Fire’ - and experts say they can't rule out California being next.

Roughly 90 percent of the world’s earthquakes occur in this belt, which loops from New Zealand to Chile, passing through the coasts of Asia and the Americas on the way.

Now, after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit New Zealand on Wednesday followed by temblors off the coasts of Japan (6.1), Vanuatu (6.4), and Indonesia (5.7) early Thursday morning, others in its path – including California – are wondering if they could be next.

  • "Ye men of Galilee...Christ will come again in like manner..."

It was once fashionable in religious circles to say that Jesus Christ would never return to the earth. There are still plenty of professing Christians who believe that. But there are now many others who have come to believe that the Second Coming is a very important event.

True Bible Students have always taught that the Return of Jesus Christ to the earth is vital to the fulfilment of the purpose of God.

Behold Your King!

But what is the Second Coming of the Lord going to be like? For example, would it be possible to miss it altogether and not even be aware that it had occurred? Will it be visible or invisible? Will Jesus be there in person or merely a spiritual presence? And will he come to the earth or only towards the earth?
Jesus Christ rose bodily from the grave. He was not an invisible spirit creature but One who could be seen, handled and held (1 John 1:1; Luke 24:39,40). His body was marked by the evidence of his suffering on the cross. Yet he was no longer subject to the limitations of human existence. He could come and go despite locked doors, and on Mount Olivet he ascended bodily to heaven, defying the law of gravity. The disciples had seen him go; he would return visibly. As the angel later said: "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him" (Revelation 1:7). Or as Zechariah the Old Testament prophet had predicted, long before the crucifixion, "They shall look upon me whom they have pierced and they shall mourn for him" (12:10).

So it will not do to say that only those who look with faith will see the Lord. Some will look, see, and mourn (Revelation 1:7). Nor will it do to say that Jesus will come invisibly, for the Lord himself warned:

"Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christ’s and false prophets . . ." (Matthew 24:23,24).

Nor will it do to argue that the Bible talks of the presence of the Lord, meaning that it will be an invisible one. The New Testament also talks about the revelation of the Lord, using a word that means uncovering or manifesting. In fact, the presence (Greek: parousia) of the Lord turns out to be an especially suitable term. One of the most authoritative Greek Lexicons available says of the word:

"It became the official term for a visit of a person of high rank, especially of kings and emperors visiting a province" (Arndt and Gingrich).

It is such a visit by a King that the Scriptures foretell. The crowds who welcomed King Jesus into Jerusalem when he sat astride a donkey and they threw coats and' palm branches before him, shouted out greetings that referred right back to the Promises of God: "Blessed be the kingdom of our father David that cometh in the name of the Lord" (Mark 11:10). Matthew comments that the rejoicing was a foretaste of what had been forecast by Zechariah the prophet, when he wrote "Behold, thy King cometh unto thee".

Now if the initial royal visit was attended by such joy and rejoicing, consider what the next one will be like! The prophet had declared:

"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold thy king cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation. . . and he shall speak peace unto the heathen; and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth" (Zechariah 9:9,10). 

Dual Fulfilment

This Scripture illustrates a widely used feature of Bible prophecy: its joint short and long-term character. Jerusalem rejoiced at the Kingly coming of Jesus -- "Lowly and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass" -- just as the prophet had said. But their joy was short-lived, for he did not then go on to establish worldwide peace, or commence to rule from Jerusalem over a Kingdom that was to last forever. Jesus completed enough of the prophecy at that time to demonstrate that he was the Coming One, and to give us confidence that he will return to complete the promised transformation of the earth. Zechariah compressed the two comings in such a way that there appeared to be no interval between them. This has led some people to argue that the Kingdom will never come, because, they say, even Jesus expected it in the First Century, or at most shortly afterwards. It has thus been dismissed by some as an early Christian hope, which has now been superseded by a superior understanding. But when all the Scriptures are studied carefully, it becomes clear that the Coming of Jesus was not to occur immediately after his ascension to heaven.

The Day and the Hour

Any attempt to show that Jesus was mistaken about the time of his Coming is doomed to failure. He clearly stated, more than once, that he did not know:

The Jews – God’s WitnessesIsrael

Whatever we may think of the nation of Israel and its actions among the nations of the world today, there is no denying the fact that Israel and the Jews have a primary role in the plan and purpose of God.

A Holy People

This is what was said about the children of Israel when they first became a nation following their remarkable and awe-inspiring deliverance from slavery in Egypt:

You are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt (Deuteronomy 7:6–8).

God’s Conditions

Anti Jewish SemitismIn Leviticus chapter 26 and Deuteronomy chapter 28, God told the nation how bountifully He would bless them if they were faithful to Him and what terrible terrible curses He would bring upon them if they turned away from Him and served other gods. Here are a couple of passages from Deuteronomy 28 about what would happen to them if they turned away from their God:

You shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword among all

nations where the Lord will drive you (Deuteronomy 28:37).

...Then the Lord will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the  earth to the other, and there you shall serve other gods, which neither you nor your fathers have known – wood and stone. And among those nations you shall find no rest, nor shall the sole of your foot have a resting place; but there the Lord will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and anguish of soul. Your life shall hang in doubt before you; you shall fear day and night, and have no assurance of life. In the morning you shall say, ‘Oh, that it were evening!’ And at evening you shall say, ‘Oh, that it were morning!’ because of the fear which terrifies your heart, and because of the sight which your eyes see (Deuteronomy 28:64–67).

Witnesses

Because of their unfaithfulness, all the appalling things written about what would happen to them have come upon them throughout their long and gruelling history. In all this they bear witness to the veracity of the Word of God and to the One from whom they turned away.

Sadly, today many Jewish people do not even acknowledge God’s existence.

Yet the Scripture speaks for itself:

“You are My witnesses,” says the Lord, “and My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no saviour. I have declared and saved, I have proclaimed, and there was no foreign god among you; therefore you are My witnesses,” says the Lord, “that I am God” (Isaiah 43:10–12).

The Middle East ConflictA Nation Always in the News

It seems that Israel is never out of the news for long. Despite its small size and insignificance compared to the G8 nations, the spotlight of the world's attention falls frequently on this troubled country.

The World could give a few reasons why this might be;

  • A (generally) pro-western state surrounded by (generally) anti-western neighbours.
  • A (nominally) Judaistic nation surrounded by (nominally) Islamic Nations.
  • The powerful Jewish lobby in the United States and elsewhere, mustering support.
  • A capital city (Jerusalem), holy to three different (and often conflicting) religions; Judaism, Islam and Christianity.
  • One piece of land (Canaan), occupied by two nations, Israel and PalestineIsrael Map

However, the Bible Old Testament (a book holy to Islam, Judaism and Christianity) has a simpler explanation:

Isaiah 43:10 “You are my witnesses,” says the LORD, “With my servant whom I have chosen; that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am he. Before me there was no God formed, neither will there be after me."

Isaiah 44:8 Don’t fear, neither be afraid. Haven’t I declared it to you long ago, and shown it? You are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? Indeed, there is not. I don’t know any other Rock.”

The Bible says that Israel are God's witnesses. Through them, we can see God at work, bringing about His plan and purpose for the Earth.

BIBLE PROPHECY - CONVINCING PROOF THAT GOD EXISTS

The Bible is a most remarkable book. Its account of the origin of evil; its unparalleled record of God's dealings with the nation of Israel; its searching message through their prophets; its "good news" proclaimed by Jesus Christ and his apostles; above all, its unerring analysis of the weaknesses of human nature and its contrasting portrayal of the holiness, the truth and the mercy of God, made especially plain in the person of His Son - all these are outstanding features found in no other book in the world. They prompted Henry Rogers over l00 years ago to declare: "The Bible is not such a book as man would have written if he could, nor could have written if he would."( In The Superhuman Origin of the Bible Deduced from Itself.) In other words, God is needed to explain its existence.

In this short work we shall consider one of the Bible's unique features: its prophecy. Now strictly prophecy is not just foretelling the future. A prophet was one who "spoke for" another, a spokesman; and prophecy was the message the prophet spoke on behalf of God. But since Bible prophecy contains quite a lot of "prediction", or foretelling future events, for our purpose here we shall take the term in that sense.

Who has the Power of Prophecy?

But first we must settle an important question: Does the Bible claim that the power of prophecy belongs only to God and is a proof of His authority?

To this there is a decisive answer in the prophecy of Isaiah. In the 41st chapter God challenges the idols and the idol worshippers of the day to prove that they possess divine powers. This is how He does it:

"Produce your cause, saith the Lord; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob, Let them (the idols) bring them, (the reasons) forth, and declare unto us what shall happen: declare ye the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; and shew us things to come ..." (vv.21-22,R.V.).

The basis of this challenge is clear: the pagan worshippers claim that their idols are gods. Very well; let them produce the proofs. And the proofs demanded by God Himself are that the idols shall announce future events, and also declare "the former things", that is, explain how creation took place in the beginning. The point is made crystal clear in the next verse:

"Declare the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods ..." (v.23).

Here God Himself is asserting that to be able to foretell the future would be a proof of Divine power. More than once in this part of Isaiah's prophecy, God declares that He is the only one who has this power, for only He is God; there is no other:

"Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God , and there is none like me ..." (46:9)

The God of Israel is here declaring that there is no other worthy object of worship but Himself; and goes on to assert the signs of His power in these terms:

". . . declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure" (46:10).

Come to think of it, whoever would dare to say, "My counsel shall stand . . ." -except God? What man is there in the whole world who could say any such thing? To carry it out needs Someone who not only knows future events before they happen, but has the power to see that they take place as He has decreed. In other words, to utter prophecy which will inevitably come true, you need God. No other cause can explain it.

The New Testament makes the same claim. When Jesus was about to leave his disciples, he promised them the help of the Holy Spirit in their task of preaching the Gospel in the world. One of the effects of this gift was to be: "He shall declare unto you the things that are to come" (John 16:13); in other words, the disciples were to be given a knowledge of future events. It is certainly implied that without the special gift they could not have done this. Their ability to declare the future was to be an evidence of the Divine power they had been granted.

Again, in the last book of the Bible, chapter 1, verse 1, it is declared that God gave to Jesus Christ a revelation, "to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly come to pass . . ." (Revelation 1:1) . The knowledge of the future came from God through Jesus; without that revelation, His servants could have known nothing of it.

The conclusion is clear: the Bible says quite definitely that the power to foretell the future belongs to God alone.
